Abstract

Diabetes mellitus has been associated with a number of physiological consequences. Recently, several studies suggested that Diabetes mellitus (Insulin Dependant and Non Insulin Dependant) is associated with cognitive impairment leading to higher incidence of dementia. In the present study, implicit memory and explicit memory of 64 participants were measured. All participants were separated in 4 groups: implicit memory in non diabetes mellitus group, implicit memory in diabetes mellitus group, explicit memory in non diabetes mellitus group, and explicit memory in non diabetes mellitus group. Participants of explicit groups were evaluated by recognition test and participants of implicit groups were evaluated by word stem completion test. The result of this study indicates that explicit memory performance of non diabetes mellitus group was better than explicit memory of diabetes mellitus group. This study also indicates that implicit memory performance of diabetes mellitus group and non diabetes mellitus group were not different.
