PMLI (IPC Corporate University)The Knowledge Management division library is a special library under the auspices of PT. Indonesian
Maritime and Logistics Education (PT. PMLI), this library is dedicated as a center for information
and knowledge in the port sector. As a special library, library collections are dominated by collections
with the subject of ports, maritime and logistics, and use a special classification system. So what is
the form of this special classification system notation, and how is it applied? This study uses a
qualitative research method with a descriptive approach. Data collection techniques using
unstructured interview techniques, passive participatory observation, and documentation. Data
analysis used the Miles and Huberman model with data reduction, data presentation, conclusion
drawing, and triangulation and member check techniques. The results of the study explain that based
on the results of interviews, observations, and literature reviews, the notation of a special
classification system in the Knowledge Management division library of PT. PMLI, divides the
collection classification system chart into 5 major groups based on the type of collection, namely: 1).
Textbook (TXT), 2). Reference (REF), 3). Thesis and Dissertation (TD), 4). IPC Publications (IPC),
5). general collection (LC). The process of implementing a special classification system goes through
4 stages, namely: 1). subject analysis, 2). classification, 3). labeling, 4). shelving, but in the manual,
it has not been explained in detail. So it is necessary to update and complete the classification system
and application rules in the library management manual for the Knowledge Management division of
