RIEDLING DI PERPUSTAKAAN MAN YOGYAKARTA IIIThis research aims to determine the activities of a reference librarian and also to
determine the fit between theory Ann Riedling with a reference librarian at the
Library of activities MAN Yogyakarta III. This study used qualitative methods.
While data collection techniques in this research is through interview,
observation, and documentation with the study of literature. The data were
analyzed by using three stages, namely reduced, then the data is presented in the
form of narrative text and draw conclusions in accordance with the formulation of
the problem that has been described. The results show the performance of a
reference librarian at the library MAN Yogyakarta III that reference librarians
provide some services to students include: (1) provide services to students while
classical (2) providing a reference indoor use as a learning tool (3) assist students
in finding sources information (4) participate in determining the resources that
will be used (5) guiding or give advice to students in finding the resources needed.
Of some of the above services there are some jobs that fit with the theory of Ann
Riedling and also there are some that do not fit. Riedling theory focuses on three
main elements of activities, namely: (1) Knowledge of the Reference Service (2)
communication skills with students (3) Skills in selecting, acquiring, and evaluate
the needs of students. Based on the analysis of student researchers in
communication skills, able to keep a reference librarian communication patterns
of students. Then the skill to choose, obtain, and evaluate, reference librarians
have a strategy for the selection of resources according to the needs of students, as
well as in evaluating the student needs to have a special role in this activity. To
the knowledge of the services on the reference librarians have technical flaws in
referring to resources. Activity refers to the source of information is very
important and the main services in the reference service activities, but in the
development of reference services librarian provided some new breakthrough that
