JATINOM, KLATEN
(Studi Deskriptif Kualitatif Tradisi Yaaqawiyyu Sebagai Sistem Tanda
Berdasarkan Perspektif Roland Barthes)This research originated from the myth of the blessing of Yaaqawiyyu tradition,
which is in Jatinom sub-district, Klaten regency. This myth is circulated among
the citizens of Jatinom after held Yaaqawiyyu tradition after Kyahi Ageng
Gribig's death. Kyahi Ageng Gribig is a figure that became the beginning of this
tradition. He is a missionary who preaches in the district Jatinom.
The focus of this research is on the myth that evolved as a sign system based on
the Roland Barthes perspective. Roland Barthes is the only semiotical theorist
that includes the mythical points in his theory. Barthes explained that there are
two levels in the semiotics, namely denotation and connotation. From the existing
connotations came the myths that affect the daily lives of citizens.
The main theory of Roland Barthes is preceded by an introduction to the theory
derived from the Science of Communication. In relation to sign and meaning, the
realm of communication must enter one of the streams of communication. The
researcher chooses the flow of semiotics communication because it speaks of the
process of sign and meaning exchange, which corresponds to the main theory to
be used.
The results of the research describes the meanings of each event, from the seven
existing series of traditions. The meaning of denotation of each event in the
tradition is the meaning Kyahi Ageng Gribig wishes to convey through the
message he conveyed. However, there is one event that clearly raises the myth
among the citizens of Jatinom, namely “Sebaran Apem”.
Suggestions from researcher to other researchers who want to examine the myth
of the tradition of Yaaqawiyyu as a sign system is to examine the displacement of
the mythical meaning of Jatinom citizens, to the outsiders of Jatinom who are
visitors of the tradition. This research will later complement the research that
researchers have done at this time.
