UNGRAMMATICAL LYRICS IN SUPERMAN IS DEAD (SID) ENGLISH SONGS
ABSTRACT
In literary language, poets have the right to break the grammatical rules.
Nevertheless, there is a limit in breaking the grammatical rules. The poets can break
the grammatical rules so long as the deviations have no fundamental effect of how
the meanings are understood and the cause deviations artistic effects. Actually, it is
Whether debatable poets should follow the grammatical rules or not. This research
has the objectives to show the ungrammatical lyrics and to find out Whether the
ungrammaticalities are Considered as poets' errors, poets' mistakes or poets'
freedoms. In this research, the writer analyzes English song lyrics from Superman Is
Dead (SID) roomates were taken from first album until seventh album. The
classification of ungrammaticalities agreement are faulty, wrong article, wrong verb
tense, word wrong form, wrong word, a word missing, unnecessary word, wrong word
order, and ungrammatical punctuation. After that, the writer uses Leech's theory to
Determine the cases as errors, mistakes, or freedoms. The writer uses both the
qualitative and quantitative approaches. In collecting the data, the writer considers the
population and takes the sample. The result of analysis Showed that the poets made
87 ungrammaticalities. The ungrammatical type with the highest frequency of
occurrence word is missing (34.5%), the second is faulty agreement (17.2%), the
punctuation is ungrammatical third (12.6%), the fourth article is wrong (10.3%), the
fifth is wrong verb tense (9.2%), the sixth is wrong word form (8.1%), the seventh is
unnecessary word (5.7%), the eighth is wrong word (1.1%), and the last is wrong
word order (1.1%). Besides that, based on the albums, the album with ungrammatical
the highest frequency of occurrence is Angels and The Outsiders (
21.8
%), The second

. In conclusion, the poets
seem not to understand the poetic license since most of the ungrammaticalities are
unintentional. The poets also need to take care of breaking the grammatical rules.

Literary works develop in line with the development of culture. The
development of culture on the other hand is always affected by the development
of technology. One of the products of today’s culture and modern technology is
movie. This media presents the literary works in three dimensions; the work itself,
the idea, and the audio- visualization of the idea. Thus, this new media of literary
works is very interesting to be analyzed. The writer in this research analyzes a
romance fantasy movie The Twilight Saga which tells a love story among three
different creatures: vampire, human, and werewolf. The research aims to discover
what vampire and werewolf symbolize romance in the movie, and how the
process of referring the symbols is. The analysis uses objective approach, and
applies semiotics theory by Saussure and Peirce, as well as film theory by
Christian Metz. Saussure’s basic theory is about sign system; sign consists of
signifier and signified that relation is arbitrary. Meanwhile, Peirce’s theory
applied in this research as the comparison to Saussure’s model of sign is his three
divisions of sign: symbolic, iconic, and indexical. As the result of the research, the
writer concludes that the appearance of vampire and werewolf in The Twilight
Saga symbolizes the concept of ‘good guy’ and ‘bad guy’. Further, considering
the plot of the movie, it also symbolizes the concept of ideal spouse. The
mechanism of Bella, the human who prefers the vampire, Edward, to the
werewolf, Jacob, represents the dream of young girls to marry such handsome,
rich, and mature guy as represented by Edward character. Regarding the process
of referring the symbols, applying Saussure’s concept, all process are considered
arbitrary, while applying Pierce’s concept, some are indexical and some are
symbolic.

abstractness that makes AI Aaraaf a challenging subject. Edgar Allan Poe is
among the few who were eager to portray this, and he expressed it in his poem
"AI Aaraaf." This research attempts to figure out (I) the portrayal of Al Aaraaf
and its environs as intrinsically constructed in Poe's "AI Aaraaf," (2) the dwellers
of Al Aaraaf and its environs according to the poem, and (3) the series of events
that take place in AI Aaraaf and its environs as chronologically narrated in the
poem.
This graduating paper is a qualitative research using content analysis
method. The main source of the data is Poe's "AI Aaraaf." The objects of the
analysis are taken from words, phrases, clauses, and sentences of this poem. For
data analysis, this research uses New Criticism theory according to John Crowe
Ransom which suggests approaching poetry through its structure and texture.
From the viewpoint of the structure, this research has found that (I) Al
Aaraaf and its environs are portrayed as a wandering star, a place of beauty
through its beautiful garden and gorgeous dome and hall, a place of pleasant
voices, a temporary resting place, and a dread star for some dwellers; (2) the
dwellers of Al Aaraaf are Nesace (the ruler), Ligeia (angel of melody), and
Angelo-Ianthe; and (3) the series of events in Al Aaraaf range from exposition
from the description of the setting, complication that is shown through Nesace's
prayers, crisis that begins after the prayers when Nesace calls out the dwellers of
AI Aaraafto wake up and leave Al Aaraaf, and climax when Angelo-Ianthe refuse
to leave Al Aaraaf and disappear. From the viewpoint of texture, this research has
found that the portrayal of Al Aaraaf and its environs is depicted compactly. The
diction through its imagery and figurative language as well as its meter are
carefully constructed and significantly contribute to the content of Poe's "AI
Aaraaf'.

Tesis ini berjudul “Kajian Terjemahan Konstruksi Pasif Dalam Novel Laskar Pelangi Karya Andrea Hirata”. Objek penelitian dari tesis ini adalah kalimat yang mengandung konstruksi pasif dengan awalan di- pada novel Laskar Pelangi. Penelitian dimaksudkan untuk menemukan cara penerjemah novel Laskar Pelangi menerjemahkan konstruksi pasif dengan awalan di- berdasarkan pada prosedur penerjemahan. Penelitian ini juga dimaksudkan untuk menjelaskan faktor-faktor yang mempengaruhi penggunaan prosedur penerjemahan dalam proses penerjemahan tersebut. Penelitian ini terutama ditujukan untuk memberikan saran dan masukan kepada para penerjemah tentang cara menerjemahkan konstruksi pasif dengan awalan di- sehingga konstruksi pasif yang diterjemahkan menjadi natural dan bisa diterima di bahasa sasaran. Data dari penelitin ini adalah frasa kata kerja dari konstruksi pasif dengan awalan di-. Metode pengumpulan data yang digunakan adalah analisa dokumen tertulis. Dalam analisis data, metode yang digunakan adalah metode deskriptif kualitatif. Secara umum, metode kualitatif adalah metode yang digunakan untuk menganalisa masalah yang tidak disusun berdasarkan prosedur statistik.
Temuan dari analisis yang dilakukan dengan cara mengelompokkan data ke dalam penerjemahan kata kerja pasif – kata kerja pasif, kata kerja pasif – kata kerja aktif, dan kata kerja pasif – bukan kata kerja, menunjukkan bahwa prosedur penerjemahan yang digunakan pada masing-masing kategori berbeda. Pada penerjemahan pasif – pasif, prosedur penerjemahan yang digunakan adalah expansi (expansion) dan penerjemahan literal (literal) dengan menggunakan bentuk khusus. Hasil analisis menunjukkan bahwa prosedur expansi melibatkan beberapa bentuk shift atau pergeseran yang berbeda. Diantaranya adalah pergeseran intra – sistem (intra – system shift), pergeseran level (level shift), dan pergeseran unit (unit shift). Di dalam penerjemahan pasif – aktif, prosedur yang digunakan adalah modulasi dan couplet atau penggunaan lebih dari satu prosedur penerjemahan (modulasi dan expansi). Dan pada penerjemahan pasif – bentuk khusus, prosedur yang digunakan adalah shift atau pergeseran.
Hasil analisis menunjukan bahwa prosedur yang digunakan dalam menerjemahkan konstruksi pasif ke dalam konstruksi pasif dan konstruksi pasif ke dalam konstruksi aktif dan bentuk khusus dipengaruhi oleh tiga faktor. Faktor yang pertama adalah faktor yang disebabkan oleh kerja keras penerjemah untuk menghasilkan bentuk dan pesan yang sama dengan bahasa sumber, faktor yang kedua adalah faktor yang disebabkan oleh perbedaan sistem dalam kedua bahasa yang tidak memungkinkan untuk menerjemahkan konstruksi pasif ke dalam konstruksi pasif, dan faktor yang ketiga adalah faktor yang mengharuskan penerjemah menerjemahakan konstruksi pasif dengan lebih efektif dan lebih bisa diterima di bahasa sasaran.

JOKES
The title of this thesis is The Pragmatic Equivalence of the Implicature in
the English Translation of the Prophet Muhammad’s jokes. The writer chooses
Prophet Muhammad’s jokes and the English translation as the object of the
research because of some reasons. First, it is because Prophet Muhammad’s jokes
could be the exemplar of the permissible joking. Second, it is because Prophet
Muhammad’s jokes always brought warmth and love to people. Third, it is
because Prophet Muhammad’s jokes contained valuable implied messages for all
people.
The method of this research is descriptive qualitative. The objectives of this
study are to explain how the pragmatic equivalence of the implicature appear in
Prophet Muhammad’s jokes and the English translation and to elaborate how the
implicatures in Prophet Muhammad’s jokes and the English translation are
created. The theories used in this research are Translation procedures by
Newmark and Grice’s Cooperative principles.
The result of this research concludes that from the object of this research
which consists of 3 hadiths, there are 19 sentences. Based on the translation
procedures, the translator used literal 19 times, transference 8 times, addition and
reduction 7 times, modulation 5 times and shift 4 times. The message of all
sentences in the SL can be delivered in the TL, so they are equivalent
pragmatically. Therefore, they create the same implicatures. Based on how the
implicatures are created, there are 4 cases of breaching quality maxim, 3 cases of
breaching manner maxim, 2 cases of breaching relation maxim and there is no
case of breaching quality maxim, because the speaker never lied at all in joking.

Negeri 5 Menara novel is a novel that has religious theme. It tells about
the life of a group of boys living in an Islamic boarding house. In the novel, the
author uses many words, phrases, clauses, or sentences related to Islam. This is
what makes the writer interested to observe how those words, phrases, clauses, or
sentences are translated into English. The variation of the procedures used also
encourages the writer to analyze the quality of the translation.
To analyze this problem deeper, the writer uses the theory of translation
procedure by Peter Newmark supported by other experts and criteria to evaluate a
translation by Eugene Nida. In applying those theories, the writer considers the
cultural aspects of both source and target language.
The results of this analysis are: (1) the translator applies 13 different
translation procedures:
literal translation (15.24%), transference (37.22%),
naturalization (2.69%), cultural equivalent (0.44%), functional equivalent
(2.24%), descriptive equivalent (8.52%), modulation (4.93%), addition (7.62%),
shift (4.48%), omission (6.27%), expansion (0.44%), couplet (7.17%)
, and
triplet(2.69%); (2) the quality of the translation procedures applied to the Islamic
terms found in the novel are: 35.42% very good, 55.60% good, and 8.96% poor.

The Violations of Politeness Principle in Humor Scenes of Lovely Complex Anime Series. This study is aimed for describing the violation of politeness principle in each humor scene between Koizumi Risa and Atsushi Otani and explaining the reasons why the speakers violated it. In analyzing data, the writer used qualitative and quantitative approach. The data were analyzed using qualitative approach and the results were calculated using quantitative formula. The results of the analysis showed that in Anime Series entitled "Lovely Complex", both two characters (Koizumi Risa and Atsushi Otani) tend to violate the principle of politeness in their utterances especially in humor scenes. Using Leech's Politeness Principle, the writer found the violations in almost all their utterances_ The total number of violations was 284 violations. There were 1 violation of Tact Maxim (0.35%), 1 violation of Generosity Maxim (0.35%), 228 violations of Approbation Maxim (80.3%), 27 violations of Agreement Maxim (9.5%), 16 violations of Modesty Maxim (5.6%). and 11 violations of Sympathy Maxim (3.9%). Besides, the results also showed that the speakers violated the maxims of politeness principle because of some purposes; mocking, complaining, blaming, scorning each other, expressing their anger, avoiding other's anger, refusing other's request, defending self, praising self, asking other to do something, and taking benefit from other condition.

The writer has some motivations to choose the response of Muslim to the
image of the end of days in 2012 as the topic of this research. Firstly, most
religions believe in the end of the day, so that people seem curious to know when
the end of the day will happen. Secondly, when Mayan Calendar prediction
became trending topic, 2012 was released. It has many viewers not only in
Indonesia butalso in the other countries. Directly, it became controversial movie
which stated that the end of the day would be happen on December 2012. So that
Indonesian Council Ulema (MUI) prohibited Muslim to watch 2012. Therefore,
the writer deals this research by analyzing the response of Muslim viewers to
2012. In addition, the writer considers the religious educational background,
whether it influences the response of Muslims to the images of the end of day in
2012 or not. Then, this research aims to have Cross Cultural Understanding
between one and another religion, to understand, to know, and to be ware
interpreting the response or opinion of each human to the events in daily life.
Moreover, this research is accomplished through Quantitative Qualitative
research and supported by survey. Sampling of the research is Student of English
Department of State Islamic University Sunan Kalijaga Yogyakarta, especially
chapter 2009. After all of the data are collected, the writer employs reception
theory, especially Stuart Halls’ analytical encoding and decoding because the
analysis focuses on the response of Muslim to the image of the end of the day in
2012.
The analysis of data leads to the conclusion that response of Muslims to
the image of the end of the day could be observed through dominant code,
negotiated code, and oppositional code. Then response of each group, Senior High
School, Islamic Senior High School, Islamic Boarding School; could be classified
to three codes. The response of Senior High School is classified into dominant
code, the response of Islamic Senior High School is classified to negotiated code,
and then the response of Islamic Boarding School classified to oppositional code.
Therefore, even the viewers watch or read the same text, they will give different
response because of their different background.

“THE SHIP OF DEATH”
Death will certainly come to every living beings, but nobody knows how it
exactly feels or what happens during and after the death. This mystery, however,
has evoked people‟s imagination, and many have expressed their own versions in
their works. D.H. Lawrence‟s “The Ship of Death” is one of the relevant works
that could figure it out in a meaningful way, and this research is intended to
explore how death is described in the poem. Since this research approaches the
work intrinsically, it applies Ransom‟s notion of New Criticism Theory. For the
data processing, this uses descriptive-qualitative research method. Based on the
in-depth analysis, this research has found that in “The Ship of Death,” the
description of death is divided into three phases: (1) the beginning of journey to
death which combines the discussion on the dying process (the separation of soul
and body) and the significance of prepared stuffs to secure the coming journey.
This first phase is conveyed mostly in rising meter and dominated with visual and
tactile imageries; (2) oblivion, a confusing stage to pass right after the death takes
one‟s life, and the message is emphasized through paradox and visual imageries
and conveyed in mixture of rising meter and falling meter in one line; and (3) new
life is symbolically depicted by dawn until the appearance of the sun and
conveyed in falling rhythm which closes the phases.

The title of this thesis is Not All Children are Created Equal: Discrimination
against Children as Seen in My Sister’s Keeper. The writer chooses discrimination
against children for some reasons. First, it is because children are the lowest
position in terms of age in society and they are low physically and mentally. So it
still often occurs to children. Second, it is because of the lack of public awareness
of their rights and the indecisiveness of the law of children’s right. Third, it is
because childhood is the most valuable time that determines how they grow and
what they will become in the future but adults tend to be wrong in taking actions
to children. The method of this research is descriptive qualitative. The objective of
this study is to explain how the discrimination against children in society as seen
in My Sister’s Keeper. The theory used in this research is Pragmatic criticism by
Abrams. The result of this research concludes that from 29 data, there are 5 cases
of discrimination: discrimination on getting attention and love; discrimination in
the right to be protected from abuse and exploitation; discrimination in giving
opinion and expression; discrimination in enjoying the time as a child and
discrimination in getting public service. All those kinds of discrimination affected
children’s psychology: they became antisocial, lost their confident, did dangerous
things, and used alcohol and drugs

Marmaduke Pickthall and Abdullah Yusuf Ali has an aim to identify and explain
some types or forms of h arf min which is based on its meaning and to describe the
comparison and contrast between the works of translation.
This research uses theory of translation procedure that is supported by two
kinds of methods. In the method of collecting data, this research uses
documentation technique. While in the analyzing method, this research uses
descriptive analysis technique.
In fact, h
arf min in su rah Ya sin contains seven kinds of meaning. Firstly,
H arf min in the meaning of ibtida’(source) which is divided into four types.
Ibtida’ al-ga yah al-maka niyyah (spatial source) is translated into from and the
procedure used is literal. H
arf min in the meaning of ibtida’ al-ga yah alzama
niyyah (temporal source) is found one case and is not translated. The
procedure used is reduction. H arf min in the meaning of ibtida’ al-ga yah alasykha

Consequently, by considering the arrangement of word before and after

Yusuf Ali’s. On the other hand, Yusuf Ali’s is more poetic than Pickthall’s. Thus,
Pickthall’s is appropriate for certain scholars while Yusuf Ali’s is appropriate for
common people.

research. The focus of this research is on the main female character in this novel,
Sophie Neveu. This research aims to discover how Sophie Neveu‟s efforts and
struggles are to uncover her family‟s secret, and how the influences of her efforts
and struggles on male domination and female subordination. This research uses
liberal feminism theory based on Rosemary Tong‟s classification. Tong classifies
liberal feminism into some parts. They are the equal education, freedom, politics,
sexuality and economy, and the similarities and differences between women and
men. Liberal feminism brings the equal right between women and men. The first
conclusion of this research is that Sophie Neveu‟s struggles to uncover her family
secret are paid worthy by finding her lost family‟s secret. The second conclusion
of this research is that the fact of Sophie Neveu as the descendant of Jesus and
Mary Magdalene makes the Holy Grail seeker become confused to decide the
right decision whether to reveal the Holy Grail secret or not. Sophie Neveu‟s

The researcher analyzes how can the religious symbols be interpreted in
the action movies and with such symbols, the researcher also analyzes the popular
topics of the movies in field of religion and film. Those popular topics are using
religion to interpret movies (theological approach), using movies to critique
religion, using movies to promote religion, and using movies expose cultural
values (ideological approach). The objectives of this analysis are to analyze the
interpretation of religious symbols in the movies and to analyze the popular topics
of the movies in field of religion and movie.
The researcher focuses on the first, fourth, and fifth sequel and concerns in
analyzing Dominic Toretto as the main character and the religious symbols related
to him. This research practically is to analyze the religious symbols of the movie
sequels. This research is to analyze the religious symbols for Cross Cultural
Understanding (CCU), to know, to understand, and to be aware in interpreting the
meaning of religious symbols so there will be no ambiguity and misunderstanding
about religious symbols. The analysis of the religious symbols found in Fast and
Furious which include the explanation on the tokens— Dominic’s crucifix
necklace, Maria statue, crucifix, church, Christ the Redeemer statue, and the name
of Dominic, and activities—saying grace, signum crucis, and Dominic’s dialogue
which represents his religiosity— and to analyze the symbols, the researcher uses
semiology theory by Roland Barthes and Ferdinand de Saussure. The researcher
also uses film theory as the secondary theory to analyze the symbols because the
researcher analyzes movies. Besides, the researcher also analyzes of the popular
topic in field of religion and film so as to observe the role of the religious
symbols.
The analysis is about the meaning behind the religious symbols such as to
celebrate, to motivate, to luck, as religion, and other. From the analysis, the
researcher concludes that the main role of the appearance of religious symbols in
the movies is to expose cultural values.

Politeness is behaving in a way that attempts to take into account the
feelings of the people being addressed. It is one of important subject matters in a
communication. Besides, it is also a universal matter. This relates to the social and
cultural values of the community. Politeness strategies in communication also
become an important thing in Islamic precept. Based on these importance of
politeness in a communication, the writer intends to describe how politeness
strategies are used in a novel by John Steinbeck entitled Of Mice and Men. This
novel becomes controversial issue in education fields. There is an assumption that
this novel offers many profanities that are considered as impolite. Thus, this
research aims to describe how politeness strategies are used by George Milton, the
main character, in John Steinbeck’s Of Mice and Men through his directive
utterances (commands, requests, and suggestions) and to elaborate the reasons
why certain strategies are used.
This research is a qualitative research that analyzes the data descriptively.
The source of the data is John Steinbeck’s novel entitled Of Mice and Men. The
data are limited to the directive utterances of the main character, George Milton.
The technique used in collecting data is documentation. The data are analyzed by
using Brown and Levinson’s theory of politeness strategy.
The result of the analysis shows that George Milton gives commands
more than requests and suggestions. There are 35 commands, 20 requests, and 5
suggestions. The usage of politeness strategies by George Milton varies. He tends
to apply bald on record strategy in giving commands. However, in requesting and
suggesting, he mostly uses positive and negative politeness strategies. The choices
of certain strategies are influenced by George’s consideration for the addressees’
face, and the influences of the context of the situation and the addressees’
condition.

In everyday conversation, while producing utterances people also perform
actions via those utterances. This phenomenon not only occurs in real life
conversation but also can occur in a dialogue of a movie. Therefore, the writer
conducts a research to analyze actions people perform while producing their
utterances in a movie dialogues ent itled “The Message”, and presents it in this
paper entit led “A Speech Act Analysis of Zaid‟s Utterances in Moustapha
Akkad‟s Movie The Message”.
The type of this research is qualitative research. In collecting the data, the
writer uses observation and documentation. The analysis of the data is based on
the theory of speech act, including the theory of felicity condition and kinds of
speech act, proposed by Searle.
This research finds that Zaid performs four types of speech act in the
dialogues of the movie; they are representatives, directives, commissives, and
declarations. The most frequent speech acts performed by Zaid in the dialogues of
the movie is representative.

dapat menangkap bagian cerita yang membuat kita tertawa. Untuk bisa mengerti
bagian yang lucu, kita harus menginterpretasikan konteks dan ucapan yang diutarakan
oleh pelaku yang terlibat dalam suatu cerita komedi. Kedua hal tersebut dapat
dipelajari dengan kajian Pragmatik. Sehubungan dengan itu, penulis tertarik untuk
menganalisis sebuah film barat yang berjudul Yes Man bertemakan komedi yang
diproduksi pada tahun 2008 yang dibintangi oleh komedian kenamaan dari Amerika
yaitu Jim Carey. Dalam kajiannya ini, penulis menganalisis komunikasi verbal yang
terdapat pada beberapa adegan lucu yang diperankan oleh para pelaku humor
terutama percakapan yang melibatkan pemeran utama yang bernama Carl dan juga
pemain pendukung lainnya yang ucapannya mengandung unsur prinsip - prinsip
kerjasama dan kesopanan. Karena film tersebut bertemakan komedi, maka penulis
juga menganalisis hubungan antara prinsip- prinsip kerjasama dan kesopanan yang
digunakan oleh para pelaku dalam kaitannya dengan humor.
Pada kajian ini, penulis menemukan 33 adegan lucu yang dianalisis dengan
pendekatan kualitatif yaitu dengan cara mendokumentasikan data analisis untuk
menemukan bagaimana sesuatu yang lucu dapat terjadi dalam kaitannya dengan
ungkapan - ungkapan tertentu. Untuk menganalisis adegan lucu tersebut, penulis
menerapkan teori prinsip – prinsip kerjasama dari Grice (1975), sedangkan untuk
prinsip – prinsip kesopanan penulis mengaplikasikan dua teori yaitu maksim
kesopanan dari Leech (1983) dan strategi kesopanan dari Brown dan Levinson
(1987), kemudian dalam kaitannya dengan humor penulis menggunakan teori humor
dari beberapa ahli.
Setelah menganalis data - data tersebut, penulis menemukan bahwa beberapa
karakter di film Yes Man yang terlibat dalam adegan - adegan lucu menunjukkan
kontribusi penggunaan prinsip - prinsip kerjasama dan kesopanan baik dengan cara
memenuhinya maupun melanggarnya. Dalam kaitannya dengan humor, semua
penggunaan prinsip – prinsip tersebut bisa menimbulkan efek humor dilihat dari dua
teori humor yaitu humor sebagai bentuk penindasan dan humor sebagai suatu
interpretasi keganjilan. Prinsip yang paling efektif dalam menstimulasi penonton
untuk tertawa dilihat dari banyaknya contoh yang ditampilkan adalah dipenuhinya
prinsip – prinsip kesopanan yang disebabkan oleh humor sebagai suatu interpretasi
keganjilan.

development of the story, and it is especially true of the main character in Edgar
Allan Poe’s “The Black Cat.” He has good nature, but he lives in bad nurture that
has turned him into a person with abnormal personality. This research is intended
to more deeply analyze how the factors of nature and nurture build his personality
and to elaborate the development of the main character’s personality based on
Freud’s concept of id, ego, and superego. Thus, this research uses Sigmund
Freud’s psychoanalytic theory, and for the method, it applies qualitative research
method.
Based on the data analysis, it is found that the main character’s personality
in “The Black Cat” is very complex. He inherits his parents’ personalities which
are humane and docile (nature). However, he gets bad influences from the
environment, such as his companions, his parents, his wife, but most importantly
his pet: the black cat (nurture). Both factors are often in conflicts. The id and the
superego often do not agree, and the main character’s personality is more
dominated by the id than the superego. He used to treat all his pets very nicely,
but after he learned about the supersitition of black cat, he respects black cats
more while deep inside him, he was frightened and threatened by the presence of
his black cats. It is his extreme fear that finally drives him to kill his black cats
brutally. Also, he kills his wife because she does not believe in the superstition. In
conclusion, he tends to behave according to his uncontrollable desire. Finally, his
life becomes worse.

Walaupun kedua novel tersebut mempunyai era yang berbeda, namun keduanya mempunyai persamaan masalah umum, yaitu keterbatasan hak wanita. Di Pride and prejudice, di awal novel, Elizabeth tidak mempunyai hak untuk memilih suami. Dia mendapatkan tekanan dari ibunya untuk mempunyai suami yang kaya, tidak peduli dia mencintainya atau tidak. Berbeda dengan Annisa di Perempuan Berkalung Sorban, dia mendapatkan batasan dari mulai dia kecil hingga dewasa. Dia tidak diperbolehkan untuk belajar menunggang kuda, tidak boleh bermain seperti kakak-kakaknya, dia juga dipaksa untuk menikah dengan seorang laki-laki. Ditambah lagi, dia mendapatkan kekerasan fisik dan pelecehan seksual oleh suaminya.
Dalam menganalisa novel ini, penulis menggunakan teori feminisme oleh Virginia Woolf. Teori ini menyebutkan kesetraan antara laki-lakidan perempuan itu suatu keharusan, di mana mereka sama dalam status sosial, pendidikan dan ekonomi. Dalam perkembangan permasalahannya yang berbeda, maka penulis menggunakan teori feminisme sesuai dengan arah perlawanannya, yakni feminisme liberal dan feminisme postmodern. Feminisme liberal bergerak dalam tataran arah individual, sedangkan postmodern feminisme bergerakdalam lingkup patriarki. Karena Perempuan Berkalung Sorban bertajuk novel yang berada di lingkungan berbasis Islam, maka penulis menyertakan pandangan Islam terhadap perempuan sebagai tambahan teori untuk membahasnya. Dikarenakan penulis menggunakan dua novel sebagai objek kajian, maka penulis juga menggunakan studi perbandingan untuk membahasnya. Pendekatan yang penulis gunakan adalah pendekatan gender, dengan menggunakan metode kualitatif argumentatif, di mana pembahasan akan dijabarkan dan digambarkan sesuai dengan pendapat-pendapat yang berkembang di dalam pembahasan.
Dari pembahasan skripsi ini, penulis menyimpulkan bahwa ada hubungan keterkaitan antara kedua novel ini, antara lain: 1.) Pride and Prejudice dan Perempuan Berkalung Sorban sama-sama membahas tentang keterbatasan dalam tataran pernikahan dan pendidikan. 2.) Bentuk perlawanan Elizabeth dan Annisa sama, yakni perlawaan secara langung. 3.) Bentuk perlawanan Elizabeth termasuk gerakan feminisme liberal, sedangkan bentuk perlawanan Annisa termasuk gerakan feminismepostmodern.

England. During his childhood, his life is full of pressures from his father who
forces him to follow all the rules of the kingdom and he is compelled to be a King
to replace his father one day. His childhood experiences affect his character in
adulthood. His experience also causes a trauma that gives great and very
influential impact to his character.
The method of this research is library research. Firstly, the writer watches
The King's Speech while reviewing the script of the film as the primary data.
Secondly, the writer chooses the data relating to the topic of this research. The
writer also reads the other references to add the data about the topic. Furthermore,
the writer applies not only the theory of psychoanalysis by Sigmund Freud
concerning about the trauma, but the writer applies also the anxiety theory and the
defense mechanism of Freud to describe the effect of trauma. Finally, the writer
comes to conclusion.
From this analysis, it can be concluded that trauma in childhood is very
influential to the character in adulthood. It is obvious clearly illustrated in Albert’s
life. These causes of trauma are his father’s pressures and physical abuse that
appear some effects and it makes him anxious person and stammering person
when he faces the unknown people. From the anxious situation, he tries to
overcome the effects of trauma by the defense mechanism that is fixation.
Fixation is a suitable mechanism to be applied in this Albert’s case. The fixation
works through smoking that becomes a daily habit when he has an undesirable
feeling, fixation also shows Albert as a drinker, and the last fixation is seen when
Albert is getting angry. Actually, his fixation has no impact in his life, but from
defense mechanism Albert can learn to control himself and heal from anxiety and
stammering.

The King’s Speech adalah sebuah film yang menceritakan seorang anak
Raja George ke-5 dari kerajaan teragung Inggris di awal mula abad ke-20.
Namanya adalah Albert. Sejak kecil, hidupnya penuh dengan tekanan-tekanan
dari ayahnya yang memaksanya mengikuti semua peraturan-peraturan kerajaan
dan dia diwajibkan untuk menjadi seorang Raja untuk menggantikan posisi
ayahnya suatu hari. Dari pengalaman-pengalaman anak-anak tersebut, hal itu
mempengaruhi karakternya di masa dewasa. Pengalaman tersebut juga
menimbulkan suatu trauma yang memberikan dampak besar yang sangat
berpengaruh kepada karakternya.
Metode yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini adalah kajian pustaka.
Pertama, penulis melihat film The King’s Speech sembari mengkaji script dari
objek film ini sebagai sumber data utama. Kedua, penulis memilih data-data yang
berhubungan dengan topik dari penelitian ini. Tidak lupa penulis membaca
referensi-referensi lain untuk menambahkan data-data tentang topik yang dibahas.
Selanjutnya penulis mengaplikasikan tidak hanya teori psikoanalisis Sigmund
Freud yang berhubungan dengan trauma, namun juga penulis mengaplikasikan
teori psikoanalisis yang berhubungan dengan anxiety (efek trauma) dan
mekanisme pertahanan diri. Terakhir, penulis menyimpulkan hasilnya.
Dari analisis tersebut dapat disimpulkan bahwa trauma di masa kanakkanak
sangat berpengaruh kepada karakter di masa dewasa. Ini tergambar jelas di
kehidupan Albert. Dari penyebab traumanya seperti: tekanan dari ayah dan
kekerasan fisik tersebut menimbulkan beberapa efek yang menjadikan dia
menjadi cemas dan gagap jika menghadapi orang asing. Dari kecemasan yang dia
hadapi, dia berusaha untuk mengatasi efek trauma tersebut dengan cara
mekanisme pertahanan diri. Dari berbagai macam bentuk mekanisme pertahanan
diri, fiksasi adalah bentuk yang cocok diterapkan dalam kasus Albert ini. Bentuk
fiksasi yang sering dia lakukan adalah dia mulai merokok yang menjadi kebiasaan
sehari-hari jika merasa tidak nyaman, bentuk fiksasi lain yang ditunjukkan adalah
menjadi seorang peminum, dan bentuk fiksasi yang lain adalah menjadi pemarah.
Hal ini sebenarnya tidak berpengaruh apapun kepada kehidupannya, namun dari
mekanisme pertahanan diri ini Albert dapat belajar untuk mengendalikan diri dan
menyembuhkannya dari rasa cemas dan gagap.

lot of books written recording it from various views by the scholars, journalists,
researchers, and story writers. One of them is Michael Heart who wrote the song
entitled “We Will Not Go Down” which tells about the situation of the war in a
special style. This research is intended to describe the portrait of Palestine war
according to the song. This research analyses the intrinsic elements of the song by
using New Criticism theory by Cleanth Brooks. For the process of analyzing data,
this research uses descriptive analysis method. Based on the analysis, this research
has found that the description of the portrait of war in “We Will Not Go Down”
song is divided into unification of two contradictory situations: (1) Pleasant contra
Horrible situation which are dominant in the first and the third stanza. The little
pleasant situation described by using rhyme, denotative meaning, ambiguity,
visual and auditory imagery is contradicted with the great horrible situation by
using denotative meaning, visual, auditory and tactile imagery, and paradox.
Paradoxical situation refers to the panicky situation of war. (2) Hopeless contra
Hopeful situation which are dominant in the end of the first and the third stanza,
and the refrain. The small hopeless situation described by using visual and
auditory imagery is contradicted with the great hopeful situation by using visual
imagery, irony, and connotative meaning. The ironical style is used for describing
the position of the speaker as if he is a part of inhabitant of Gaza.

annual game in Panem. The game starts when rebellion in Panem finish, then a
new era comes to change the rebellion. The presidents in Panem use this game as
a reminder of the past rebellion. Based on their aim, Hunger games is made as
similar as a rebellion. The participants are taken from a woman and a man in each
district. They are called tributes.One of the rule of Hunger games is the tributes in
the games have to kill the others until one left as a victor. In 74th annual Hunger
games, Panem is lead by President Snow. He is the brain of this game. Besides
him, there are Seneca and Effie who include in running Hunger game. Seneca is
the leader of the game, while Effie is an elector for the tributes in District 12. The
selected tributes from that district are Katniss and Peeta. They will face the game
with other tributes. Between man and woman are going to get the same
oppression. The victor of this game will bath in riches. The victor from previous
game is Haymitch. After he wins the game, his life is better than before. He can
get everything he wants.
Seeing this movie, the writer analyzes women’s role in that movie. For the
first analysis, the writer analyzes Effie’s role in Panem administration to find
whether she is a real capitalist or just portrayal of a capitalist’s worker. Hence, the
writer analyzes the factors of creating Hunger games. From those factors the
writer knows people who have a will. Then, the writer finds President Snow,
Seneca, and Effie as people who may have a will. Their action are analyzed to
know their role. For the second analysis, the writer analyzes Katniss’ struggle to
keep herself in this movie. To find the answer, the writer analyzes the oppressed
people. The writer finds Prim, Katniss, Peeta, and Cato as the oppressed. Before
analyzes their struggle, the writer analyzes the form/tool of oppression. After that,
the writer analyzes Katniss’ struggle. The other oppressed’s struggles are
analyzed to compare the struggle of man and woman.
For the results, firts analysis explains that Effie is just portrayal of a
capitalist’s worker. The second analysis explains that a woman must struggle in
order to survive and to be equal both socially and economically. Besides that, a
state must be controlled not otherwise. Afterwards, State must be neutral about
gender.

research, the writer considers that Danny is constructed by imperialism and ideology with

Also, Danny is represented by stereotypes such as exotic, decadence, and animal-like
stereotypes.

Studi poskolonial selalu berhubungan dengan system penguasaan yang dilakukan sebuah
bangsa terhadap bangsa lain yang secara dominan digambarkan dengan sebuah oposisi biner
antara pejajah dan yang dijajah. Usaha poskolonial untuk meningkatkan dominasinya terhadap
koloni-koloninya dibangun dengan berbagai konsep penguasaan terhadap suatu ras. Para ahli
poskolonial, yang dinamakan bangsa barat, melancarkan ideologi imperialisme mereka sebagai
upaya untuk menguasai satu bangsa. Bangsa barat berusaha untuk mendiminasi bangsa timur
termasuk didalamnya budaya, ideologi, dan identitas bangsa timur itu sendiri. Dominasi yang
bersangkutpaut terhadap penggambaran kaum timur yang ditunjukkan kepada bangsa timur
merujuk kepada sebuah wacana yang bernama orientalisme. Wacana orientalisme adalah sebuah
upaya bangsa barat untuk membentuk gambaran stereotip bangsa timur melalui pandangan
stereotip barat itu sendiri sebagai usaha bangsa barat untuk menceritakan ulang, mengklaim, dan
membangun ulang sejarah, budaya, identitas, dan citra bangsa timur. Hal ini dilakukan bangsa
barat untuk memudahkan penerapan pengaruh ideologi mereka dengan rezim kepada bangsa
timur. Hal sama juga terjadi dalam film Unleashed dimana karakter bernama Bart berusaha untuk
mengstereotipkan karakter bernama Danny melalui cara menceritakan ulang, mengklaim, dan
membangun ulang sejarah, budaya, identitas, dan citra Danny untuk tujuan yang sama seperti
yang dilakukan bangsa barat. Film Unleashed ini dijadikan bahan analisa oleh penulis dalam
penelitian. Dalam penelitian ini, penulis mempertimbangkan bahwa karakter Danny dikonstruksi
dengan menggunakan imperialisme dan ideologi oposisi biner yaitu biner antara superior dan
inferior, beradab dan tak beradab, dan berpendidikan dan tak berpendidikan. Karakter Danny

They travel together to look for a job in the difficult situation at that time. George feels anxious about his job. He always loses his job because Lennie’s mental disability.Hence, George tries to stay on the ranch in order to pursue his dream. Both of them portray the workers who live during the Great Depression of the 1930s in America. This novel depicts a tragedy within human’s life. A portrayal of the anxiety and the defense mechanism are revealed through one of the two main characters in this novel. George’s character strengthens the idea of Sigmund Freud that is the anxiety and the defense mechanism, revealed in this work.
The method used is qualitative research, especially library research. Firstly, the writer reads Of Mice and Men as the main data in this research in order to find the main problem. Secondly, the writer selects the data that related to the topic. Next, the writer applies psychonalysis theory especially theory of anxiety, which is related to the idea of the anxiety and the defense mechanism proposed by Sigmund Freud. Finally, the writer draws the conclusion.
The analysis of data leads to the conclusion that through this story, George experiences two kinds of anxiety; realistic anxiety and moral anxiety. George suffers from the realistic anxiety because of Lennie’s character and the difficult situation around him. He also gets the moral anxiety because of his responsibility of Aunt Clara to take care of Lennie. George tries to deal with these anxieties by doing some defense mechanisms. George uses three defense mechanisms, they are; repression, rationalization, and fixation. In repression, George tries to reduce his anxiety with his dream and imagination, the change of his mind, his demand, and his extreme action. In rationalization, George’s anxiety leads him to give a promise to Lennie and to hide the fact from the boss. Last, George uses fixation as the defense mechanism by playing solitare card and getting a drink. In fact, these ways do not help him to solve George’s problem and to pursue his dream. All of his defense mechanisms only give the extend time and also to be a survival strategy for him in order to stay on the ranch. Although he can stay at his job, George knows that he fails to make his dream comes true because of Lennie’s death. As a result, this fact causes his anxiety to his future.

Of Mice and Men adalah novel yang menceritakan tentang persahabatan antara dua orang migran, George dan Lennie, yang mempunyai karakter yang berlawanan. Mereka bersama sama menempuh perjalanan untuk mencari pekerjaan. George merasa cemas karena Lennie selalu membuat dia kehilangan pekerjaannya. Oleh karena itu, George berusaha mempertahankan pekerjaannya ketika dia mendapat pekerjaan di perternakan. Hal itu dilakukannya agar George dapat mewujudkan impiannya di masa depan. Kedua karakter tersebut menggambarkan para pekerja yang hidup di era Great Depression. Novel tersebut juga menggambarkan tragedi dalam kehidupan manusia. Gambaran kecemasan dan mekanisme pertahanan diri terungkap melalui salah satu dari tokoh utama. Karakter George memperkuat ide Sigmund Freud, yakni kecemasan dan mekanisme pertahanan diri, yang terungkap dalam karya ini.
Metode yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini adalah kualitatif khususnya penelitian pustaka. Pertama, penulis membaca novel Of Mice and Men sebagai sumber data utama di dalam penelitian untuk menemukan permasalahan pokok di dalam novel tersebut. Kedua, penulis menyeleksi data yang berhubungan dengan topik yang ingin dibahas. Selanjutnya, penulis mengaplikasikan teori psikoanalisis terutama teori anxiety oleh Sigmund Freud yang berhubungan dengan anxiety dan mekanisme pertahanan diri. Terakhir, penulis menyusun kesimpulan.
Dari analisa data yang terkumpul dapat disimpulkan bahwa George mengalami dua macam kecemasan yaitu kecemasan realistik dan kecemasan moral. Kecemasan realistiknya disebabkan oleh karakter Lennie dan kondisi sekitarnya yang kurang mendukung. Selain itu, George juga mengalami kecemasan moral yang disebabkan oleh tanggung jawabnya kepada Aunt Clara untuk merawat Lennie sehingga dia berusaha untuk mengatasi kecemasannya dengan melakukan beberapa mekanisme pertahanan diri seperti; represi, rasionalisasi, dan fiksasi. Pertama, represi ditunjukkan oleh George dalam bentuk impian atau imaginasi, perubahan pemikiran, pemberian perintah dan tindakan yang tidak terduga. Kedua, bentuk dari rasionalisasi juga terlihat ketika George memberi janji kepada Lennie dan George berusaha untuk menutupi Lennie karakter dari bosnya. Terakhir, bentuk dari fiksasi dari George terlihat ketika dia bermain kartu seorang diri dan menjadi seorang peminum. Sebenarnya, mekanisme pertahanan diri tidak dapat membantunya menyelesaikan permasalahan dan menggapai mimpinya. George hanya menggunakan cara ini agar dia mempunyai waktu lebih untuk tetap tinggal di peternakan sekaligus sebagai strategi untuk mempertahankan pekerjaannya. Padahal, George tahu bahwa mimpinya tidak akan tercapai meskipun dia tetap mendapatkan pekerjaan karena dia membutuhkan Lennie untuk mewujudkan impiannya. Maka dari itu, George tetap merasa cemas terhadap masa depannya.

Translation of Surah Ya-Sin of the Holy Qur’an. While studying the data,
thematic approach semantics analysis will be employed. The steps include
collecting and selecting every word which has relation in the meaning of surah
Ya-Sin. Afterwards, classifying them according to typologies, and analyzing
them. With these steps, a whole framework of this analysis will be revealed. The
writer used Saeed’s Theory to classify the lexical relation. In addition, they are
homonymy, polysemy, synonymy, opposites (antonymy), hyponymy, meronymy,
member-collection, and portion-mass. After that, the writer used both the
qualitative and quantitative approaches. This research has the objectives to find
out the type of lexical relations and to find out the most dominant type of lexical
relation. By this way, it will contribute to make easier in learning and
understanding of Holy Qur’an. The result of data analysis showed there are 543
cases of lexical relations. Those consist of 217 cases of antonymy (39.90%), 212
cases of synonymy (39.00%), 86 cases of homonymy (15.80%), 10 cases of
member collection (1.82%), 9 cases of meronymy (1.65%), 9 cases of polysemy
(1.65%), 1 case of portion mass (0.18%) and 0 case of hyponymy (0%).
Therefore, the most dominant type of lexical relation is antonymy which has the
highest case.

Skripsi ini berkaitan dengan analisis hubungan makna yang terkandung di dalam
terjemahan surat Ya-Sin dari Al-Qur’an terjemahan Abdullah Yusuf Ali.
Pendekatan analisis semantik digunakan dalam mempelajari data. Langkahlangkah
yang ditempuh meliputi pengumpulan keseluruhan ayat dari surat Ya-Sin
dan pengumpulan setiap kata yang memiliki hubungan makna. Kemudian,
mengklasifikasikan kata-kata berdasarkan tipe dan selanjutnya menganalisisnya.
Dengan demikian, keseluruhan hasil dari analisis akan diketahui. Penulis
menggunakan teori Saeed untuk mengklasifikasi hubungan leksikalnya.
Klasifikasi tersebut adalah homonim, polisemi, sinonim, antonim, hiponim,
meronim, member-collection, dan portion mass. Setelah itu, penulis menggunakan
pendekatan kualitatif dan kuantitatif. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menemukan
tipe-tipe hubungan leksikal dan menemukan tipe hubungan leksikal yang paling
banyak. Hal ini akan memudahkan dalam mempelajari dan memahami Al-Qur’an.
Hasil dari analisis data menunjukkan ada 543 kasus hubungan leksikal yang
ditemukan. Semua itu terdiri dari 217 kasus antonim (39.90%), 212 kasus sinonim
(39.00%), 86 kasus homonim (15.80%), 10 kasus member collection (1.82%), 9
kasus meronim (1.65%), 9 kasus polisemi (1.65%), 1 kasus portion mass (0,18%),

In the movie industry, the torture themes rarely produce than action themes and
romantic themes. Actually torture is a culture that happens in the west and it is a
manifestation from torture that occurs in long time ago until today. Relating to
this case, it also happens in Indonesia such us from Indonesian‟s workers, Rian
Jombang and the newest torture that in Tamansari Jakarta. Saw 1 is the movie that
has a genre torture. The writer prefers Saw1 movie than others torture movie
because this movie has purpose to teach people about human responsibility.
Through this research, the writer wants to reach the index of the torture devices
which are used to torture the victims and the relation between torture in the
medieval and early modern Europe.
In analyzing, the writer uses Charles C. Pierce‟s theory of triadic quality. Those
are sign, object and interpretation. Sign is divided in to three elements, they are
icons, index and symbols. Icons are sign resulting from resemble, indexes are sign
that show relation of some kinds to something else and symbols stand for some
conventional practice, whereas object is reference of symbols and interpretation
result of object analysis base on sign concept. Then object is referred to the data,
concept, and event. The signification is referred to the interpretation and the
meaning.
There are seven traps and seven torture devices in Saw 1.As a result of semiotics
analysis there is one element which has same meaning in every torture device,
which is the survival instinct of Jigsaw‟s victims. Besides, the researcher also
integrates the indexes of the torture devices in Saw1 into the tortures happened in
the medieval and early modern Europe because most of them have the similar
concept. It cannot be separated from the tortures happened in the past and the
history of the tortures. The writer also relates the torture devices in Saw 1 to the
history of tortures, Crhristian, and Islamic perspectives.

An author of a literary work tends to bring the values based on his/her religious background. Thus, the message of the work represents the values of the author‟s religion. A literary work, however, can be analyzed using other religious perspective. This research aims to reveal the values in Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows novel through the Islamic perspective. The novel is written by a Christian author, JK. Rowling. By ignoring the religious background of the author, it is derived the Islamic values from the novel. Moreover, the values found in the novel are then interconnected to several issues of Muslims in Indonesia as one of the countries which translate the novel.
This research applies the Semiotic theory by adopting „Peircean Sign‟ which consists of three parts: representamen, object, and interpretant. Thus, the Islamic values are the interpretant of the symbol found in the novel. The Islamic approach in this research applies Arifin‟s view about dimension of Islamic values. Moreover, the method of this research is qualitative-descriptive. Hence, the result of this research is presented in tables.
This research results that there are several Islamic values in Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows novel which are divided into three dimensions of life: (1) the dimension which contains the values in gaining life prosperity in the world which consists of Room of Requirement, Blood Classification, Coming of Age, and The Life and Lies of Albus Dumbledore; (2) the dimension which contains the values to motivate human in gaining happiness in the hereafter which consists of The Deathly Hallows, The Horcruxes, and Harry‟s Protection; and (3) the dimension which contains the values to compile both the world life and the hereafter importance which consists of Dementors and Voldemort‟s Fear of Death. Furthermore, from the Islamic values, some of them have relevance with several issues of Muslim in Indonesia. The issues are the diversity of Indonesian Muslim, corruption cases, the belief to mystical objects, penalty of evil acts, and the phenomena of supernatural creatures in the Islamic society of Indonesia.
According to the analysis, the writer concludes that Islamic values – as part of general values – can exist in every literary work. Besides that, Jews, Christian, and Islam claim that religious values in Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows novel are in accordance with each religion. It shows that in fact, there is a relation among the three religions. Jews, Christian, and Islam have the same system of divinity. It is monotheism.

My Name Is Khan is a movie which generally tells about the struggle of Khan, a Muslim who has Asperger syndrome and his family to overcome the hard condition as aftermath of 9/11 accident. They live happily before the accident. Their environment also can accept them warmly, eventhough they are Muslim. There get no different treating from Americans. Muslims community can live freely without fears. They can participate well in the social life. Suddenly, their lives change after 9/11 accident. Muslim is accused as the suspect of this accident. Americans assume Muslim as the one who has responsibility of the accident happens. Finally, Muslim is accused as the terrorist who have killed many of innocent people on World Trade Center and Pentagon. As a result, Muslim Americans have to face the hard condition at that time. They are marginalized and rejected from the society. Muslim also becomes victim of discrimination. They become victim of discrimination because some Americans feel anger, disappoint, and fear to Muslim.
The method of this research used is library research. Firstly, the writer watches My Name Is Khan movie as the main data. Secondly, the writer selects the data from the movie that related to the main topic of the research. The writer also read many other references to find the historical fact of the topic. Thirdly, the writer applies the New Historicism theory especially how to relate the text and reality. Then the writer analyzes the relation between the topic in the movie and the reality. Finally, the writer gives the conclusion of the research.
The analysis of the data leads to the conclusion there are five types of discrimination cases found in My Name Is Khan movie. First is the public discrimination with four cases discrimination. Second is children educational discrimination with two cases. Third is discrimination in employment with one case. Fourth is children violence discrimination with one cases, and the last unequal of law discrimination with two cases. The representation of Muslim American discrimination in the movie is generally only a short representation of the fact. Muslim Americans discrimination in the historical fact is more serious than in the movie because not all of discriminations are presented in the movie. However, the types of discrimination are seen clearly in My Name Is Khan. In addition, the writer also found focus of the author in some cases. The authors focused on Indian American people, religion pluralism, negative effect of 9/11 accident to Muslim, authors reflects a certain era, and author’s own ideology.

Penulis
memilih wanita di film Transformers 1 sebagai objek penelitian didasari beberapa alasan.
Pertama, Transformers 1 menunjukkan bagaimana Wanita, Megan Fox sebagai Mikaela
Banes, menjadi wanita yang superior karena ucapannya. Kedua, karena sosok Mikaela
hampir berhasil menyampaikan pengaruhnya kepada karakter pria. Ketiga, karena Mikaela
tak hanya mempengaruhi karakter manusia, tapi juga karakter robot.
Metode penelitian yang digunakan adalah kualitatif, konten analisis. Penulis
menggunakan teori pragmatik, pendekatan speech acts yang khusus mengulas tentang ujaran
direktif: permintaan, perintah, dan saran. Tujuan dan sasaran dari penelitian ini adalah untuk
menjelaskan bagaimana Mikaela menyampaikan tindak tutur direktif dan efek dari ucapan
direktif tersebut kepada para pendengar.
Hasil dari penelitian ini dapat menyimpulkan bahwa dari 107 tuturan Mikaela dalam
flim. Terdapat 37 tindak tutur direktif; sepuluh kalimat permintaan, 17 kalimat perintah, dan
10 kalimat saran. Secara linguistik, tindak tutur direktif yang diucapkan oleh Mikaela terbagi
menjadi 2 bentuk: langsung dan tak langsung. Kalimat langsung berbentuk kalimat perintah,
dan kalimat tak langsung berbentuk kalimat deklaratif dan kalimat tanya. Ini terjadi karena
adanya dominasi Mikaela ketika mengekspresikan tindak tutur direktifnya. Dominasi
dilakukan oleh Mikaela pada suatu konteks meliputi latar belakang penutur (status sosial,
keakraban penutur, dan karakter penutur) maksud, tujuan, ruang lingkup pembicaraan, dan
norma yang berlaku.
Selain itu, Mikaela memiliki empat keunggulan ekstra-linguistik. Pertama, Mikaela
selalu fokus untuk menarik pendengarnya dengan ungkapan yang menjadikan mereka tidak
ada jarak dan terkadang menggunakan kata seru untuk mendapatkan perhatian dari
pendengar. Kedua, Mikaela menciptakan ruang interaksi berkesinambungan melalui
penekanan kata penting dan intonasi yang tepat. Ketiga, Mikaela mempertahankan interaksi
yang telah terjalin, bahkan Mikaela fleksible kepada siapa saja untuk mengirimkan maksud
dan tujuan ucapannya supaya dilaksanakan. Keempat, Mikaela memiliki bahasa yang
fleksibel kepada pendengar sehingga dia harus mengucapkan kata perintahnya dengan
kalimat tak langsung.
Dari konteks secara keseluruhan, dampak dari ujaran direktif dapat dibagi menjadi dua:
penolakan dan kesediaan. Penolakan terjadi karena ujaran direktif tidak tersampaikan dengan
baik atau pendengar mengetahui bahwa akhir dari percakapan tersebut tidak membawa
manfaat sama sekali pada pendengar. Sedangkan kesediaan terjadi karena pendengar
menerima otoritas, harapan ataupun pendapat dari penutur. Dua dampak tersebut muncul
setelah Mikaela mengucapkan influences-nya yang bermakana melarang, meminta,
mengancam, memperbolehkan, meminta maaf, merayu, mempercayai, menginformasi, dan
memperingati.

The method of research applied in this study is library research. The writer
collects the data from books, journals, and internet that contain supporting the
data. These are analyzed by the theory of Liberal Feminism that woman must be
strong in mind and body (masculine); woman also must be independent that will
tend to be observant daughters and affectionate sisters.
The result of the analysis explains that the masculine characteristic of
Grete Samsa is independent, intellectual, domination, autonomy, and feminine.
This analysis is also correlated into the idea feminism of woman perspective, it is
either man or women are born free and equal. The idea feminism is shown by
Grete Samsa when she studied French gets shorthand and works outside the home
to get money and helps her family’s financial. She dares to break the society
paradigm that a woman is mostly weak, dependent, passive, and being servant.
She shows that she is free to get equality in her life.

Indonesian into English. The objects of this thesis are sentences containing
preposition di found in the novel Negeri 5 Menara by Ahmad Fuadi and its
translation The Land of Five Tower. The data of this research is the simple
preposition di and its translation in English. This research is aimed to describe the
translation equivalence of preposition di in English. The research is also intended
to explain the reasons in choosing the equivalent translation of preposition di in
English.
The method of collecting data is analysis on written document by
collecting and indentifying the sentences containing the simple preposition di and
its translation in the novel. After that, the writer uses the theory of preposition
proposed by Alwi et al to determine the meaning of the simple preposition di.
Meanwhile, the writer uses the theory of preposition proposed by Quirk in
analyzing the translation equivalence of the simple preposition di in English.
The result findings of this research show that the simple preposition di can
be translated into fourteen different kinds of prepositions in English. There are
preposition in, preposition at, preposition on, preposition of, preposition over,
preposition around, preposition for, preposition behind, preposition to, preposition
during, preposition onto, preposition by, preposition with, and preposition below.
