The movie Coraline tells about a little girl who finds a little door inside her new apartment where she meets the other parents who treat her differently from her Real parents. The problem that is found in this movie is that there are some contrasting aspects between the character of the Real and the Other Parents. This dualism causes a problematic thought for the character of Coraline. How Coraline compare and contrast her judgment over her parents is an important matter because generally a child would only have their judgment of their parents only in the imagination. The presence of the both parents makes Coraline in a difficult position. The purpose of this research is to be one of the references for those who study literature, especially the binary opposition theory. This novel tells about a story of the giants and the humans. The main characters in this novel are The Big Friendly Giant (The BFG) as the giant and Sophie as the human being. The novel depicts the giants as the enemies for the humans, except the BFG as the main character. The BFG can make a good relationship towards the humans. The relationship happens because of the process of self-identification. The purpose of this research is to find out and analyze about the main characters’ self-identification and the relationship through self-identification. The self-identification is developed through three orders; the real, the imaginary and the symbolic order. This research uses psychoanalysis theory by Jacques Lacan. The writer uses qualitative method that is done by applying descriptive analysis. The result of the study is that the BFG’s and Sophie’s self-identification process have completed each other. The BFG identifies himself through Sophie as human being in the symbolic order; and Sophie identifies herself through the BFG in the imaginary order. The process of self-identification creates and symbolizes a relationship. According to the BFG’s and Sophie’s self-identification, the relationship created is the relationship between Sophie as human being and The BFG as human being. "Contextual meaning or situational meaning appears as a result of the relationship between speech and context". The method used in this research is descreptive qualitative and the data was taken from internet. This method is used to describe the data based on Mansoer Pateda‟s theory. The researcher uses documentation technique to select the data. After analysing the data, the researcher found 65 words that have contextual meaning. It is analyzed by Grice theory of cooperative principle, breaching the maxim theory by George Yule, and theory of comedy by Abrams. In analyzing, this research uses descriptive-qualitative method. The data are described by showing the types of comedy and the comedy utterances which breaching and not breaching the maxim of cooperative principle found in Zootopia animated movie. The comedy utterances that breach the maxims are categorized in five sub, they are breaching the maxim of quantity, breaching the maxim of quality, breaching the maxim of relation, breaching the maxim of manner, and mix breaching the maxims. It uses purposive sampling technique data as collection technique. This shows the result by table of percentage of each sub breaching the maxim. This research found 346 total data of comedy utterances from the whole analyses process of Zootopia animated movie. About 272 data are comedy utterances breach the maxim and the rest of seventy four data do not breach any maxim. The most frequent maxim that is breached in this animated movie is maxim of manner. Movie is one of creations that have many aspects on it, such as plot, character, place, picture, and sound. Cyberbully is a movie that tells about the teenager’s life that addicted of internet and bully the other people in social media. This phenomena is one of the things that often happen around us, internet and bully while everyone can get away from it. Therefore, this research is needed for learning purposes. This paper also described how to find the hackerman’s utterances of the types of illocutionary act. The researcher found 52 data in Cyberbully movie based on the hackerman’s utterance. The researcher found an illocutionary acts on the hackerman’s utterance, they are; directives has two kinds of 14 of requesting and 19 of commanding, exspressives has five kinds of 1 of pain, 1 joy, 2 likes, 1 dislike, and 2 of pleasure. While, assertives has seven kinds of 1 statement of fact, 1 conclusion, 9 announcing, 4 stating, 4 claiming, 1 reporting, 1 describing, commissives has one kind of promising. Surah Al- Rahman is one of surah in the Holy Qur‟an which consists of seventy eight verses. This study is arranged with descriptive qualitative procedure, because the data of this study are in the form of sentences or words of surah Al-Rahman. In data collection techniques, the writer uses documentation technique. There are 40 data. It‟s analyzed by using theories translation procedure from Newmark and accuracy from Nida. The results of the analysis show that there are eight translation procedures employed in the translation of isim ma‟rifah on surah Al-Rahman. The method used in this research is qualitative research. The theory of Arabic suffix pronoun ha is used to collect the data and identify the meaning of SL. This research also uses the theory of word classes by Quirk to explain the TL. Equivalence theory by Nida and Taber is used in in this research to identify the type of equivalence that translators adopt in translating suffix pronoun ha into English. The suffix pronoun ha in surah al-Syamsu are translated in various sense by their translations. There are 18 suffix pronoun ha found in surah al -Syamsu those are translated similarly and differently by Abdullah Yusuf Ali, Tahereh Saffarzadeh, Muhammad Taqiuddin Al-Hilali and Muhammad Muhsin Khan. The suffix pronoun ha in Arabic are translated into English pronoun, noun, and adverb. In Ali’s translation, all of suffix pronoun ha is translated into pronoun. In Tahereh’s translation, suffix pronoun ha are translated into pronoun in 17 cases and noun in one case. First, this research aim to explain what kinds of deixis are used by Adeline Bowman as a main character in The Age of Adeline movie. Second, this research aim to explain what are the reference meanings of deixis used by Adeline Bowman as a main character in The Age of Adeline movie. The research method used by the researcher is descriptive qualitative. The data of this research was taken from The Age of Adeline movie, directed by Lee Toland Krieger and written by J. Mills Goodloe Salvador Paskowitz. The movie is a 2015 American movie. The result of this research there are 518 data from 405 Adeline’s utterances which contain deixis. From the data, this research discovers five major types of deixis by Stephen C. Levinson. Those are 421 data (81.27%) belongs to person deixis, 30 data (5.79%) belongs to place deixis, 20 data (3.86%) belongs to time deixis, 9 data (1.73%) belongs to social deixis and 38 data (7.33%) belongs to discourse deixis. The most dominant deictic expression used by Adeline is I which includes in first singular person deixis. deictic expression I is occured in 148 data. The theme antichrist itself is depicted in the song lyric At the Left Hand Ov God by Behemoth. The writer uses qualitative research as the method and combines with the interpretative approach to give more explanation about the song lyric as the object of research. Close reading method significantly has an important role in this research, especially when the writer collects the data and analyzes the lyric. By finding each little aspect or intrinsic element using close reading, the writer uses new critic theory to interpret the meaning of the lyric. The presence of literary theory, such as New criticism carries four (4) main concepts analysis of meaning like Ambiguity, Irony, Paradox, and Tension. In analyzing this research, the writer uses post-colonial theory and film theory. The data in this research is dialogue and scene in Captain Phillips movie as the main data. This research uses qualitative method by using descriptive analysis and collects the data by documentation technique. The result of this research, the writer finds the portrayal of post-colonialism in Captain Phillips movie. The writer finds that there are five portrayal of America and Somalia. CINDERELLA 2015 MOVIE (A SOCIOPRAGMATIC STUDY)This research analyzes a movie entitled Cinderella 2015 that is directed by
Kenneth Branagh and released by Walt Disney. In the analysis, the research focuses
on one aspect of language studies related to Brown and Levinson’s theory which is
politeness strategies included in the scope of pragmatic study. The data are selected
with using the theoretical-construct sampling method, as one of purposive sampling
technique which means that only utterance that applies a politeness strategy is taken
for analysis. Characters which are chosen are two characters who become the main
and dominant character in Cinderella 2015 movie. They are Cinderella or Ella (the
girl living without parents except with her stepmother and two stepsisters) and Lady
Tremaine (the stepmother who always treated Ella not like a child but rather like a
servant). From those characters having contrasting background, they are interesting
to be compared and analyzed to identify the differences in the politeness application.
The result of analysis shows that Ella more often applies positive politeness strategy
with total of 47 or 63.51% from all data, while Lady Tremaine more often uses bald
on record strategy with total of 26 or 41.2% from all data. Furthermore, this research
analyzes the factors that are involved in the uses of politeness strategy by using the
SPEAKING theory proposed by Dell Hymes and reveals the influential factors that
make those characters apply the politeness strategy. Both of characters mostly pay
attention to P factor to determine the strategies like Ella considering it 50 times and
Lady Tremaine considering it 54 times from all data. It means that the difference in
application of politeness is because of the position often occupied by the characters
realized after observing P factor. The different positions are determined by different

gender. Dialek sosial dibagi atas akrolek, basilek, slang, kolokial, argot, jargon, dan
vulgar. Dalam pemakaiannya, variasi akrolek sering kali diasumsikan dipakai oleh
usia dewasa dengan pekerjaan dalam lingkungan formal. Sementara itu, variasi
basilek, slang, kolokial, vulgar, dan argot cenderung dipakai oleh masyarakat kelas
bawah. Variasi jargon adalah untuk istilah dalam bidang ilmu atau pekerjaan tertentu.
Namun, dalam film Pirates of Caribbean asumsi tersebut terpatahkan karena
beberapa tuturan salah satu pemeran film tersebut, yakni Jack Sparrow juga varian
akrolek. Padahal, pekerjaan Jack Sparrow adalah seorang bajak laut. Oleh karena itu,
penelitian ini bertujuan mendeskripsikan variasi dialek sosial dan faktor yang
memengaruhi dialek sosial yang digunakan Jack Sparrow dalam film Pirates of
Caribbean. Penelitian ini adalah kualitatif deskriptif. Data diperoleh dari film Pirates
of Caribbean. Kemudian data ditranskripsi secara ortografis. Hasil penelitian
menunjukkan bahwa Jack Sparrow dalam film tersebut bertutur menggunakan variasi
akrolek karena ia bertutur dengan pemeran lain yang usianya lebih tua dari dirinya.
Di samping itu, ia juga bertutur secara akrolek dengan perempuan. Variasi basilek,
slang, kolokial, argot, jargon, dan vulgar tampak pada tuturan Jack Sparrow ketika
bertutur dengan teman sejawatnya sesama bajak laut. Variasi slang tampak
pemakaian kata savvy, beastie, bonnie lass, rooting, dan thump-thump. Variasi argot

berkelahi, agresif, dan memiliki power. Letty bergabung dengan tim Dom yaitu
Dom, Brian, Tej, Han, Mia, dan Letty. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui
bagaimana gambaran sisi kemaskulinitasan pada tokoh Letty. Penelitian ini
menggunakan metode kualitatif. Metode kualitatif yang menekankan aspek
pemahaman yang lebih dalam dan metode ini menggunakan analisis lebih
mendalam. Penelitian ini menggunakan teori maskulinitas dalam wanita oleh
Judith Halberstam dan R.W Connell sebagai analisis untuk menggambarankan sisi
kemaskulinitasan pada tokoh letty di film Fast and Furious 6. Peneliti juga
menggunakan movie theory oleh Amy Villarejo untuk memahami scene yang ada.
Adapun hasil dari penelitian ini, bahwa penggambaran sisi kemaskulinitasan
tokoh Letty dapat digambarkan oleh kebiasaan-kebiasaan, gesture, dan fisik. Dari
penggambaran tersebut, tokoh Letty dapat menjadi penggambaran sisi
kemaskulinitasan. Dominasi dalam sisi kemaskulinitasan berhubungan dengan
pengaruh dan memerintah. Lalu, power bisa dibagi menjadi dua yaitu kekuatan
fisik dan kekuatan psikis. Kekuatan fisik yang berhubungan dengan kekerasan,
senjata, berotot, dan kuat fisik. Kekuatan psikis adalah intimidasi dan mengambil

UIN SUNAN KALIJAGAPenelitian ini meneliti tentang analisa error atau kesalahan terhadap bunyi
diftong oleh mahasiswa semester empat belas di jurusan bahasa Inggris UIN
Sunan Kalijaga. Topik ini dipilih untuk membuktikan adanya kemungkinan
munculnya kesalahan-kesalahan dalam perolehan bahasa kedua dan aspek
psikologi sebagai pemicunya. Metode penelitian yang digunakan adalah metode
deskriptif kualitatif. Data Instrumen penelitian ini adalah hasil tes pengucapan
kata-kata diftong dan pelaksanaan interview terhadap mahasiswa. Untuk
menjawab masalah dalam penelitian ini, peneliti menggunakan beberapa teori,
yaitu: teori pengucapan diftong, teori analisa kesalahan atau error, dan teori
perolehan bahasa kedua. Dari masalah penelitian, ditemukan ada 66 kata yang
salah dalam pengucapan dikarenakan mahasiswa kesulitan dalam mengucapkan
kata-kata dalam bahasa kedua. Keadaan ini disebut juga dengan intralingual
error. Hasil dari faktor psikologi adalah: faktor aptitude/ kecerdasan mahasiswa
tidak berdampak apapun dengan benar salahnya pengucapan kata-kata diphthong.
Peneliti membuktikan dengan membandingkan hasil antara tingkat keberhasilan
mahasiswa mengucapkan kata diftong dengan hasil nilai fonetik dan fonologi
mahasiswa dan hasil pernyataan data interview. Di dalam faktor motivasi,
mahasiswa yang kurang motivasinya dalam belajar pengucapan bahasa inggris,
mereka berhasil mengucapkan kata-kata diftong lebih banyak daripada mahasiswa
yang memiliki motivasi tinggi. Dalam faktor kepribadian, semua mahasiswa
dalam penelitian ini memiliki keadaan takut, malu, dan kepribadian introvert
dalam pembelajaran bahasa inggris. Faktor kepribadian ini membuktikan bahwa
para mahasiswa jarang memperoleh atau memahami kata-kata yang mengandung

ADVERTISEMENTSThis research aims to analyze the use of Roman Jakobson’s language functions in
Samsung S8 and S8+ advertisement. This research describes the language
functions used in the utterances of Samsung S8 and S8+ smart phone
advertisements. This research is qualitative descriptive. The data source is
Samsung S8 and S8+ advertisement which taken from Samsung’s official
YouTube channel and Samsung Smartlife channel. The data are the utterances
which taken from two advertisements of Samsung S8 and S8+. The collecting
data technique is documentation. The data are analyzed by using Roman
Jakobson’s theory of language functions. This research finds that to deliver
particular messages, the utterances employ various combinations of language
functions. From 41 utterances, the researcher categorized the language functions
into eight types. They are five utterances using referential, emotive, phatic, and
poetic functions; one utterance using referential and emotive functions; 15
utterances using referential, emotive, and phatic functions; three utterances using
referential, emotive, conative, phatic, and poetic functions; three utterances using
referential, emotive, conative, and phatic functions; five utterances using
referential and phatic functions; four utterances using referential, conative, and
phatic functions; and five utterances using referential and conative functions. The
researcher also finds that all of the utterance is using the referential function.

children whose watch it about good and evil. The children understand a hero is good
and the villain is bad. Most villains is treated badly, this also happens in Wreck It
Ralph Movie, an animation from Disney Animation Studios. This movie takes setting
in the arcade game center. When the game mode has off, the other characters get
along well. But this is not happen in Fix-It Felix Jr. game, even though they are not
in game mode, the Nicelanders still hate and scared to Ralph because he wrecks the
Nicelanders penthouse. Ralph as the main character has two side of himself. Ralph
has different characterization between the game and outside the game. He has bad
side and good side. There is dualism in Ralph. This research uses Binary Opposition
theory to show the significance from the dualism of Ralph character. There is one
problem that need to answer in this research and that is “What is the significance of
the dualism in Ralph in the “Wreck-It Ralph” movie?”. This research uses qualitative
method. After analyzes the data, the researcher find out that there are some binary
opposition in Ralph character. The binary oppositions can be seen from Ralph
Reality vs Hyper-Reality which consist of Protagonist x Antagonist, Emphaty vs
Antiphaty and Timid vs Bold. The Reality of Ralph consists of old, protagonist,
emphaty and timid, while the Hyper-Reality of Ralph consists of young, antagonist,
Antipathy and bold. It shows the main binary opposition and that is Nurture vs
Nature. The reality from Ralph happens because of the influence from his
environtment, while the hyper-reality happens because it is his nature
characterization as a character that is invented for the game, Pahlawan adalah salah satu tema film yang seringkali digunakan dalam film. Tema ini juga
bisa digunakan untuk mendidik anak-anak yang menontonnya tentang kebaikan dan
kejahatan. Anak-anak paham bahwa seorang Pahlawan itu baik dan penjahatnya jahat.
Kebanyakan penjahat diperlakukan secara buruk, hal ini terjadi di film Wreck It Ralph,
sebuah animasi dari Studio Animasi Disney. Film ini berlatar disebuah pusat permainan.
Setelah mode game mati, para karakter game bisa akur terhadap satu sama lain. Tetapi ini
tidak berlaku di game Fix-it Felix Jr, walaupun setelah game berakhir, para Nicelander masih
membenci dan takut kepada Ralph karena dia menghancurkan rumah tempat tinggal
Niclander. Ralph adalah pemeran utama yang memiliki dua sisi pada dirinya. Ralph
memiliki sifat yang berbeda didalam dan diluar game. Yang pertama adalah baik dan yang
lainnya adalah jahat. Ada dualisme pada diri Ralph. penelitian ini menggunakan teori oposisi
biner untuk menunjukkan signifikansi dari dualisme yang dimiliki oleh Ralph. Ada satu
pertanyaan yang harus dijawab, yaitu apa signifikansi dari dualisme yang dimiliki oleh Ralph
didalam film “Wreck-It Ralph”?”. Penelitian ini menggunakan metode kualitatif. Setelah
dianalisis, peneliti menemukan bahwa ada beberapa oposisi biner pada karakter Ralph yaitu
kenyataan vs diluar kenyataan yang terdiri dari protagonist vs antagonis, empati vs antipati,
penyegan vs pemberani. Sifat nyata Ralph terdiri dari tua, protagonis, empati, dan penyegan,
sedangkan sifat diluar kenyataannya adalah muda, antagonis, antipati, pemberani. Hal ini
menunjukkan bahwa ada oposisi biner utama yang ingin ditunjukkan yakni didikan vs alam.
Yang mana sifat nyata Ralph adalah hasil dari pengaruh sekitarnya dan sifat diluar

Based on the problem above, the researcher guesses that Jess experiences depressive position. This research is purposed to explain whether Jess experiences depressive position or not. This research uses psychoanalysis theory by Melanie Klein about Object Relation which is focus on Depressive Position and Defense Mechanism. This research uses qualitative method to analyze the data. Based on the analysis, the researcher concludes that Jess experiences Depressive Position. Jess’s depressive position start with feeling anxiety coupled with feeling guilty over Leslie’s death because he does not invites her goes to Washington with Miss. Edmunds. This Depressive Position is caused by external and internal factor. Internal factor comes from himself like feels loneliness and lack of attention. Whereas external factors comes out of himself like bully and loses the loved object. To solves this condition Jess uses defense mechanism: introjection, projection and splitting, Bridge to Terabithia adalah novel anak-anak yang ditulis oleh Katherine Paterson pada tahun 1977. Novel ini bercerita tentang seorang anak laki-laki berumur 10 tahun, Jess Aarons yang mengalami situasi sulit diusiannya seperti merasa cemas, tertekan, merasa rendah, mendapat bulli dan merasa bersalah atas kematian sahabatnya. Novel ini juga menunjukkan pengaruh fantasi anak terhadap pertahanan diri yang digunakan untuk mengatasi situasi sulit mereka. Berdasarkan permasalahan tersebut peneliti menduga bahwa Jess mengalami posisi depresif. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menjelaskan apakah Jess benar-benar megalami posisi depresif atau tidak. Penelitian ini menggunakan teori Psikoanalisis dari Melanie Klein mengenai hubungan relasi objek yang fokus pada posisi depresif dan pertahanan diri. Peneliti menggunakan metode kualitatif untuk menganaisis data. Dari analisa yang didapat, peneliti menyimpulkan bahwa Jess benar-benar mengalami posisi depresif. Posisi Depresif Jess diawali dengan persaaan cemas disertai dengan rasa bersalah atas kematian Leslie karena tidak mengajaknya pergi ke Washington. psychoanalysis from Sigmund Freud and Melanie Klein about phantasy and
fantasy. The aim of this study is to find the trigger of Amy‟s phantasy, the forms,
and its implication. This study uses qualitative methods and applies the theory
with the appropriate data. Then, researcher concludes that the triggers of Amy‟s
phantasy are childhood memory that appeared unconsciously as result of the
formation personality from Amy‟s parents and some painful moments from her
anxiety in a marriage. Amy‟s phantasy is realized through controlling and
criminal acts. That phantasy results three implications. Amy is becoming public
attention, Amy is known as Amazing Amy; and Amy has finally got a perfect

A GRADUATING PAPERBridge to Terabithia movie is a movie which tells about
relationship between Leslie and Jess. It has two situations. Those are
imaginative situation and real situation. This research aims to analyze
utterances of three main characters in Bridge to Terabithia movie.
Furthermore, this research uses implicature theory by Grice. This research
uses qualitative method of study. This research explains the data by
showing the context of situations, the types of implicature, the types of
maxim and relation between implicit meaning of the three main utterance
and the value of islamic religion in Bridge to Terabithia movie. There are
two main points in this research. First, three main characters use
conventional implicature and conversational implicature. There are 38 data
conversational implicature and 25 data conventional implicature. Whereas,
in the conversational implicature, there are 28 data particularized
conversational implicature and 10 data generalized conversational
implicature. This research does not find some implicature breaching. It
means, they are allowing cooperative principle. It is because three main
characters want to make the hearer believe about their relationship in
different situation. Second, three main characters use implicature in the
different situation and different manner. It is because three main characters
wants to show respect, disagree, and accentuate of others feeling. Three
main characters show the implicature honestly, angriy expression,
passionately expression and smilingly expression. The implicature of three
main characters have relation with the principle of Islamic precept, Film Bridge to Terabithia merupakan film yang menceritakan
tentang persahabatan antara Leslie dan Jess. Film tersebut mempunyai dua
situasi seperti imajinatif dan konkret. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk
menganalisis pengucapan dari tiga tokoh utama di dalam film Bridge to
Terabithia. Selanjutnya, penelitian ini menggunakan teori implikatur yang
dikemukakan oleh Grice. Penelitian ini menggunakan metode kualitatif
sebagai metode penelitiannya. Penelitian ini menjelaskan data dengan
menunjukkan keadaan dari sebuah situasi, jenis implikatur, jenis maxim,
dan hubungan antara makna yang tersirat dari percakapan tiga karakter dan
nilai dari agama Islam di film Bridge to Terabithia. Ada dua poin pokok
di dalam penelitian ini. Pertama, tiga tokoh utama menggunakan
percakapan konventional dan implikatur percakapan. Terdapat 38 data
implikatur percakapan and 25 data implikatur percakapan. Sedangkan, di
bagian implikatur percakapan terdapat 28 data implikatur percakapan
khusus dan 10 data implikatur percakapan biasa. Penelitian ini tidak
menemukan beberapa percakapan yang melanggar. Hal itu menunjukkan
bahwa mereka mengikuti prinsip kerjasama dan itu dapat terjadi karena
tokoh-tokoh utama ingin membuat pendengar mempercayai tentang
persahabatan yang berada pada situasi yang berbeda seperti imajinatif dan
konkret. Kedua, tokoh-tokoh utama menggunakan implikatur karena
mempunyai manfaat di dalam situasi yang berbeda. Itu dapat digunakan
untuk menunjukkan rasa hormat, penolakan, dan menekankan beberapa
perasaan yang lain. Tiga tokoh utama menunjukkan implikatur dengan
jujur, dengan ekpresi marah, dengan ekspresi yang semangat, dan dengan

Campbell means by Hero’s Journey and explain the steps passed by characters in
The Day After Tomorrow. The theory used in this research is Hero’s Journey
Theory proposed by Joseph Campbell and film theory by Amy Villarejo. Based
on Campbell theory, there are three stages of hero. They are Departure, Initiation,
and Return. Based on the theory of film proposed by Dudley Andrew, film has
some unsure elements that must be explained by film theory. Based on the
analysis process, the hero in The Day After Tomorrow film do not pass through all
the stages that are forwarded by Joseph Campbell. In this research, the writer
researches two characters, they are father and son. The writer chooses two
characters because they have different climax, one of them has highest position of
a hero’s story,Film The Day After Tomorrow memiliki dua karakter protagonist. Mereka
memiliki peran sebagai pahlawan. Ketika sebuah cerita memiliki dua orang
pahlawan, apakah peran itu sama atau bertingkat? Siapakah yang lebih hero
diantara mereka? Metode dalam penelitian ini menggunakan metode kualitatif
dengan metode mendeskripsikan film ini. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk
mendeskripsikan apa yang dimaksud hero’s journey menurut Joseph Campbell
dan menerangkan langkah – langkah yang harus dilalui oleh sang karakter dalam
film The Day After Tomorrow. Teori yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini yaitu
teori perjalanan pahlawan oleh Joseph Campbell dan teori film oleh Amy
Villarejo. Berdasarkan teori yang diterapkan oleh Campbell, seorang pahlawan
akan melalui tiga tahap yaitu Keberangkatan, Permulaan, dan Kembali.
Berdasarkan teori film yang diterapkan, film memiliki beberapa unsur yang harus
diterangkan dalam sebuah teori film. Berdasarkan analisis dapat ditemukan bahwa
film The Day After Tomorrow tidak semua melalui tahap – tahap yang
dikemukakan oleh Joseph Campbell, ada juga tahap yang tidak dilalui seorang
pahlwan. Dalam penelitian ini, penulis meneliti dua karakter, mereka adalah ayah
dan anak. Penulis memilih dua orang karena mereka memiliki klimaks yang

POEMSIn this research, the writer analyzes the meaning of metaphor in Mewlana
Jalaludin Rumi’s poems. There are six poem selected i.e: This is love, This
aloneness, The meaning of love, A moment of happiness, Aroused passion, and
Caught in the fire of love. Each of poem has several meanings and describes
poet’s messages. Related to the message, the poet does not convey the message
directly. Thus, the objective of this research is to clarify the types of metaphor and
the meanings which are found in poems by Mewlana Jalaludin Rumi. This
research is qualitative research. Close reading technique is applied to collect and
identify the data. Then, the method of analysis data is objective-descriptive
approach. For the process, the writer uses metaphor theory proposed by Ullmann
to examine the type and the meaning of metaphor. Based on the analysis, the
writer finds 16 cases of metaphor. They consist of 1 case synesthetic metaphor, 11
cases concrete to abstract metaphor and 4 cases metaphor that does not belong to
the catagory of metaphor proposed by Ullmann. Therefore, the result of this
research shows that in the poems by Mewlana Jalaludin Rumi selected by the
writer, the dominant type of metaphor is from concrete to abstract metaphor
because there are so many cases of from concrete to abstract metaphor in this
research. Therefore, metaphors in Mewlana Jalaludin Rumi’s poems generally
show that love is an important part of life that gives happiness to live, where love
portrays author’s thoughts as he is a sufi who reflects his love devotion to Allah,
his God, Di dalam penelitian ini, peneliti menganalisis makna metafora dalam puisi
karya Mewlana Jalaludin Rumi. Ada 6 puisi, yaitu This is love, This aloneness,
The meaning of love, A moment of happiness, Aroused passion, and caught in the
fire of love. Setiap puisi memiliki beraneka macam makna dan penjelasan berupa
pesan dari penyair. Berkaitan dengan pesan, penyair tidak menyampaikan pesan
dalam puisinya secara langsung. Oleh karena itu, tujuan penelitian ini adalah
untuk mengklarifikasi kategori dan makna metafora di dalam puisi tersebut.
Penelitian ini merupakan penelitian kualitatif. Kemudian, metode analisis data
yang di gunakan adalah pendekatan objektif-deskriptif. Peneliti menggunakan
metode close reading (membaca dengan saksama). Metode ini digunakan untuk
pengumpulan dan pengidentifikasian kalimat yang mengandung makna metafora.
Dalam prosesnya, penulis menggunakan teori metafora yang dikemukakan oleh
Ullmann untuk menganalisis kategori dan makna metafora tersebut. Berdasarkan
hasil analisis, penulis menemukan 16 kasus metafora, yang terdiri 1 kasus
sinestetik metafora, 11 kasus metafora dari abstrak ke konkret dan 4 kasus
metafora yang tidak termasuk kedalam kategori yang di kemukakan oleh
Ullmann. Kemudian, hasil dari penelitian ini menunjukan bahwa di dalam puisi
karya Mewlana Jalaludin Rumi, metafora dari abstrak ke konkret adalah kategori
metafora yang lebih dominan karena lebih banyak kasus metafora dari abstrak ke
konkret dalam penelitian ini. Kemudian, metafora-metafora dalam puisi-puisi
karya Mewlana Jalaludin Rumi secara umum menggambarkan bahwa cinta
merupakan bagian penting dalam kehidupan yang dapat memberikan kebahagiaan

DIVERGENT MOVIEDivergent is an interesting movie because this film presents new concept
story about five factions (social function in society or profession) in the life of
human. This concept makes the audience imagining what if the five factions exist
in the real world. Besides, it also has many morals value that can be taken. The
main character in this movie is a strong woman who wants to against a criminal
that wants to ruin and take over the government. This movie presents anxiety
experienced by Tris as the main character. Tris is the only person who has 100%
of divergent genes. Hence, her life threatened by society around her that consider
divergent as a danger. Moreover, Divergent got many awards for the female main
character. Those are the reasons which make the female main character in
Divergent movie are interested to be observed. The analysis only focuses on the
defense mechanism in female character, Tris, to cope anxiety in her life. This
study uses qualitative methods to reveal Tris' anxiety and defense mechanism.
This research uses psychoanalysis theory by Sigmund Freud, especially anxiety
theory. By following the techniques of analyzing the data, the researcher
concludes that Tris experiences two kinds of anxieties: moral anxiety and realistic
anxiety. Tris applies three defense mechanisms to cope her anxiety: reaction
formation, displacement and sublimation, Divergent adalah sebuah film yang menarik dan menyajikan konsep cerita
yang baru tentang adanya lima faksi (fungsi sosial dalam masyarakat atau profesi)
dalam kehidupan manusia. Konsep film ini dapat memunculkan imajinasi
penonton bilamana kelima faksi tersebut ada di dunia nyata. Selain itu, film ini
memiliki banyak nilai-nilai moral yang dapat diambil. Tokoh utama dalam film
ini adalah seorang wanita yang ingin melawan seorang criminal yang ingin
menghancurkan dan mengambil alih pemerintahan yang ada. Film ini
menghadirkan kecemasan yang dialami Tris selaku tokoh utama. Tris adalah satusatunya
orang yang memiliki 100% gen divergent. Maka dari itu, hidupnya
terancam oleh masyarakat yang merasa bahwa divergent itu berbahaya. Terlebih
lagi film Divergent ini mendapat banyak penghargaan untuk karakter utama
wanita. Itulah alasan yang membuat karakter utama wanita dalam film Divergent
menarik untuk diteliti. Analisis ini berfokus pada mekanisme pertahanan Tris
untuk mengatasi kecemasan dalam hidupnya. Penelitian ini menggunakan metode
kualitatif untuk mengungkapkan kecemasan dan mekanisme pertahanan Tris.
Penelitian ini menggunakan teori psikoanalisis oleh Sigmund Freud, khususnya

“Phenomenal Woman” Poem. This poem illustrates about the condition of a black
woman who lives among the whites. It is to convey the crtitcs in the society that
the beauty of woman does not belong to white woman, but black woman has her
own beauty in her way. It applies Cleanth Brooks’s New Criticism Theory. The
method of this research is qualitative research. The researcher uses close reading
tehnique to collect the data. This research is divided into four thematic intrinsic
elements. Firstly, the ambiguity of the poem states in the “Phenomenal Woman”
word, it may portrays the black woman and it also would image the white woman.
Then, the paradox of the poem thematically illustrates the contradictory image of
black woman which is imaged as an ugly woman and she is also imaged as an
attractive woman. Further, the irony of the poem thematically shows that the
phenomenal woman is not related to the pretty, cute, and white skin, but it is
related to woman who changes her weakness to be strength. Last, tension of the
poem is the imbalance between black woman life and whites’s life, Penelitian ini menganalisis wanita ideal sebagaimana digambarkan dalam puisi
Maya Angelou yang berjudul “Phenomenal Woman”. Puisi ini menggambarkan
kondisi wanita kulit hitam yang hidup di tengah masyarakat kulit putih. Puisi ini
menyampaikan kritik di masyarakat bahwa kecantikan wanita tidak ada hanya
berorientasi pada wanita kulit putih, tetapi wanita kulit hitam juga cantik dengan
standarnya sendiri. Penelitian ini menggunakan theori New Criticism yang ditulis
oleh Cleanth Brooks. Metode yang digunakan adalah metode penelitian kualitatif.
Dalam mengumpulkan data penulis menggunakan tehnik close reading. Penelitian
ini dibedakan atas empat unsur intrinsik tematik. Pertama adalah ambiguity.
Ambiguity dalam puisi ini adalah pada kata “Phenomenal Woman”. Kata
“Phenomenal Woman” erat kaitannya dengan wanita kulit hitam, tapi disisi lain
wanita kulit putih bisa juga dikatakan sebagai “Phenomenal Woman”. Yang
kedua adalah paradox. Paradox dalam puisi secara kontadiksi menggambarkan
bahwa wanita kulit hitam adalah wanita yang dianggap jelek, tapi disisi lain dia
juga digambarkan sebagai wanita yang menarik. Selanjutnya, ironi secara tematik
menunjukkan bahwa “Phenomenal Woman” itu tidak berkaitan dengan wanita
yang berparas cantik, bertubuh imut dan berkulit putih, tetapi setiap wanita adalah
“Phenomenal Woman” dengan caranya masing-masing. Yang terakhir adalah

University movie. In this movie researcher see many words or dialogues that
contain impoliteness such as insulting, mocking, disparaging or boasting. The
researcher analyze the violations of six politeness principles or politeness maxims
that occur in the dialogue of this movie. This research uses qualitative descriptive
method. The data are taken from the dialogues between the characters in the movie.
The utterances used as the data source are the utterances of the dialogues which
contain a violation of politeness principles. The first step is watching Monster
University movie and reading the script of movie. Then the researcher classifies
data of dialogue Monster University movie based on Leech’s theory. The researcher
chooses the data that contains a violation of politeness principle in this movie. The
result of this research shows that there are violations of politeness principles in
Monster University movie. The total number of violations are 54 violations. There
are 1 violations of Tact Maxim, 1 violation of Generosity Maxim, 23 violations of
Approbation Maxim, 15 violations of Modesty Maxim, 13 violations of Agreement
Maxim, and 1 violation of Symphaty Maxim. In this case, Approbation Maxim is
the most violation that happen in the dialogue of Monster University movie. It
means that in this movie many conversations which show impolite. The violations
maxims related to the politeness principles still occur in many dialogues in this
movie, Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menganalisis dialog antar karakter dalam film
Monster University. Dalam film ini, peneliti melihat banyak kata atau dialog yang
mengandung ketidaksantunan antara lain menghina, mengejek, merendahkan atau
menyombongkan diri. Peneliti menganalisis pelanggaran enam prinsip kesantunan
atau maksim kesantunan yang terjadi dalam dialog film ini. Penelitian ini
menggunakan metode deskriptif kualitatif. Data diambil dari percakapan antara
karakter dalam film. Ucapan yang digunakan sebagai sumber data adalah ucapan
dari dialog yang mengandung penyimpangan dari prinsip-prinsip kesantunan.
Langkah pertama adalah menonton film Monster University dan membaca naskah
filmnya. Kemudian peneliti mengklasifikasikan data dialog film Monster
University berdasarkan teori Leech. Peneliti memilih data yang mengandung
pelanggaran terhadap prinsip kesantunan dalam film ini. Hasil penelitian ini
menunjukkan bahwa terdapat pelanggaran-pelanggaran dari prinsip kesantunan
dalam film Monster University. Jumlah pelanggaran adalah 54 pelanggaran. Ada 1
pelanggaran maksim kebijaksanaan, 1 pelanggaran terhadap maksim
kedermawanan, 23 pelanggaran terhadap maksim penghargaan, 15 pelanggaran
maksim kerendahan hati, 13 pelanggaran maksim permufakatan, 1 pelanggaran
maksim kesimpatian. Dalam kasus ini, maksim penghargaan adalah pelanggaran
paling banyak yang terjadi dalam dialog film Monster University. Artinya dalam

WALLFLOWER NOVELThe Perks of Being a Wallflower is a novel by Stephen Chbosky. This novel tells
about the journey of an introverted teenager named Charlie. Charlie's journey in this novel is
simply to be a more extroverted one. Using the theories of a hero's journey, the writer
attempts to analyze Charlie's journey from an introverted person to an extroverted person. As
we know that the general concept of a hero is a strong person, courageous and masculine
person. This research analyzes by giving different views through Charlie's introverted
characters as the hero in the story.
This research explains how a hero's journey can be fitted in this novel story. In this
analysis, Joseph Campbell explains that the journey of a hero has phases of Departure,
Initiation and Return. At each phase a hero must go through the stages of becoming a hero.
Charlie follows the phase of Arrival and Initiation. The method used in this thesis is
descriptive qualitative, because the results obtained data in the form of words or phrases. The
data will be described descriptively. As a result, this analysis explains that Charlie can be
categorized as a hero, because he follows the stage of a hero's adventure, The Perks of Being a Wallflower adalah novel karya Stephen Chbosky. Novel ini
mengisahkan tentang perjalanan seorang remaja introvert bernama Charlie. Perjalanan
Charlie dalam novel ini adalah semata-mata ingin menjadi peribadi yang lebih extrovert.
Dalam cerita ini, Charlie bertemu dengan Bill, guru bahasa Inggrisnya dan memintanya untuk
lebih berpartisipasi dalam hidup. Charlie juga bertemu dengan dua seniornya, Sam dan
Patrcik yang mengubah kehidupadn remajanya lebih berwarna. Dalam analisa ini, penulis
mencoba memberikan pandangan yang lain tentang konsep seorang pahlawan. Konsep
pahlawan sendiri biasanya adalah seorang yang kuat, berani dan maskulin. Disini, penulis
menganalisa perjalanan seorang pahlawan melalui karakter Charlie yang introvert. Skripsi ini
akan menjelaskan bagaimana perjalan seorang pahlawan yang bisa sesuai dalam cerita novel
ini. Dalam analisa ini, penullis menggunakan teori perjalanan seorang pahlawan oleh Joseph
Campbell. Campbell menerangkan bahwa perjalan seorang pahlwan memiliki tiga tahapan,
yaitu Kedatangan, Inisiasi dan Kembali. Di setiap tahapan itu, seorang pahlwan harus melalui
tahapan-tahapan untuk menjadi seorang pahlawan. Dalam analisa ini, Charlie mengikuti dua

character of this movie is a heroine. Jennifer, the main character of this movie is
depicted as a beautiful and strong woman who wants to finish her second novel.
She faces many obstacles, like the cruel, wicked men, and dangerous situation in
her journey. And, the writes chooses to discuss Jennifer’s journey because the
journey that experienced by Jennifer contains the issue of Joseph Campbell’s
hero’s journey. The method of this research is qualitative method by applying
descriptive analysis. The objective of this study is to describe the stage of
Jennifer’s journey and how it can be fit with the hero’s journey stages. The theory
used in this research is hero’s journey theory by Joseph Campbell and also film
theory. Based on the theory, the hero’s journey is divided into three stages that are
Departure, Initiation, and Return. From the analysis, Jennifer only undergoes the
journey until Initiation. The result of this research concludes that Jennifer’s
Journey fits with the concept of Joseph Campbell’s hero’s journey but the last

novel kedua nya. Dia mengalami banyak tantangan seperti kekejaman, orangorang

memilih untuk membahas perjalanan Jennifer karena perjalanan yang dialami
Jennifer berisi isu hero’s journey dari Joseph Campbell. Metode yang digunakan
adalah metode kualitatif dengan mengaplikasikan analisis deskriptif. Tujuan
penelitian ini adalah untuk mendeskripsikan tahapan-tahapan perjalanan Jennifer
dan bagaimana tahapan tersebut sesuai dengan tahapan-tahapan perjalanan
seorang pahlawan. Teori yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini adalah teori hero’s
journey nya Joseph Campbell dan juga teori film. Berdasarkan teori tersebut,

movie and also to find out the constructed meaning that is created by the director
in represent Skeeter’s character. The Help movie tells about discrimination by
White American toward Black American. Besides, The Help tells about Skeeter’s
as a woman writer who wants to save Black American from the discrimination by
using a unique way. She writes the book about Black Maid experience of working
for White American. To conduct this research, the researcher uses Representation
theory developed by Stuart Hall that focuses on constructed approach. The theory
of representation uses two process of representation, those are concept and
language. The qualitative method is used as the method of the research.
Meanwhile, to collect the data the researcher uses documentation technique. After
analyzing the data that have been collected, start from the character and
characterization, then the scene and script that describe about Skeeter’s
representation. The researcher concludes that Skeeter in The Help Movie can be
represented into three representations. Those are hero, traitor, and independent
woman, Penelitian ini,mempunyai tujuan untuk mengetahui bagaimana Skeeter
digambarkan di film The Help dan mencari tau makna yang tersirat yang di buat
oleh sutradara. Film The Help menceritakan tentang diskriminasi yang dilakukan
oleh kulit putih Amerika terhadap kulit hitam Amerika. Selain itu, The Help juga
menceritakan tentang penulis wanita bernama Skeeter yang berusaha
menyelamatkan kulit hitam Amerika dari diskriminasi menggunakan cara yang
unik. Skeeter menulis buku tentang pengalaman kulit hitam Amerika ketika
bekerja untuk kulit putih Amerika. Penelitian ini menggunakan teori representasi
dari Stuart Hall dan lebih focus pada pendekatan construcsionist. Teori rpresentasi
menggunakan dua proses dalam penelitian nya,yaitu konsepdan bahasa. Penelitian
ini juga menggunakan metode qualitative sebagai pelengkap. Selain itu, peneliti
juga menggunakan metode dokumentasi dalam mengumpulkan data. Setelah
menganalisa data-data yang telah terkumpul, mulai dari karakter dan sifatsifatnya,
gambar dan dialog yang berhubungan dengan representasi Skeeter.
Penulis menyimpulkan bahwa Skeeter di gambarkan menjadi tiga dalam film The
Help. audience’s perspective towards characters. The main character is portrayed
differently from the majority of the same sex characters. What is the evidence? To
analyze this problem the writer uses Queer theory to achieve the goal as Queer
theory study about homosexual and use “normal” as the basic point of view to
determine if it’s odd, weird, in this case, homosexual. To support, the writer uses
movie theory. The mise-en-scene from movie theory is applied to emphasize the
evidence that movie director influences the audience. The writer uses descriptive
qualitative method, the data is result of analyzing the subject in which Alan Turing
shows Homoerotic cues based on how the cinematograph depicted. The result of
this paper finds that the movie director puts stereotype around Alan’s character into
the audience’s perspective. Prejudice and boundary or discrimination towards his

Hacksaw Ridge. The writer choses to discuss the hero’s journey of Desmond Doss
in the film because the character is portrayed in different depiction since he is
presented as a conscientious objector who joins the army, a little army medic who
doesn’t want to kill and refuse to carry any kind of weapons in the battlefield to
protect himself. He is also an unsophisticated, uneducated, and unskilled one. The
writer choses Hacksaw Ridge film because this film tries to reconstruct the
meaning of hero and war through the story and character of Desmond Doss.
Besides, Hacksaw Ridge film can be considered as one of the successful war films
for its achievement in some awards and positive critical responses from the film
critics, and film magazines. They are called this film as a masterpiece, brilliant,
fantastic and also considered as the best war film since Saving Private Ryan
(1998) The method of this research is qualitative method which is conducted with
descriptive analysis. The objective of this research is to analyze and explain the
stages passed by Desmond Doss character in his journey to be a hero in Hacksaw
Ridge film. The theory used in this research is hero’s journey theory proposed by
Joseph Campbell and supported by film theory since the subject is a film.
According to Campbell there are three stages of the hero’s journey they are
Departure, Initiation, and Return. From the analysis, it can be found that in his
journey, Desmond Doss only passed the stage of departure and initiation while the
stage of return cannot be found. Nevertheless, it can be concluded that the journey
of Desmond Doss fit the pattern of hero’s journey by Joseph Campbell and finally
Desmond can be declared as the hero of this film. This research also proves that
hero’s journey is still relevant and can be applied in any kind of stories or films, Judul skripsi ini adalah The Journey of Desmond Doss in Hacksaw Ridge.
Penulis memilih untuk membahas perjalanan menjadi seorang pahlawan yang
dilakukan oleh karakter Desmond Doss dalam film Hacksaw Ridge karena
penggambaran yang berbeda dari karakter Desmond Doss yaitu dia digambarkan
sebagai seorang penentang perang yang memutuskan menjadi seorang tantara,
seorang tantara medis yang kurus, tidak mau membunuh, dan menolak membawa
segala macam senjata untuk melindungi dirinya di medan perang. Dia juga
seorang yang sederhana, tidak berpendidikan, dan tidak terlatih. Penulis memeilih
film Hacksaw Ridge karena film ini mencoba untuk merekonstruksi makna
pahlawan dan perang melalui cerita dan karater Desmond Doss. Selain itu, Film
Hacksaw Ridge bisa dianggap sebagai salah satu film perang yang sukses atas
pencapainnya dalam beberapa pengahargaan dan respon positif dari kritikus dan
majalah film. Mereka menyebut bahwa Hacksaw Ridge adalah sebuah maha karya
brilian, luar biasa dan juga dianggap sebagai salah satu film perang terbaik sejak
Saving Private Ryan (1998). Metode penelitian ini adalah metode kualitatif
dengan menerapkan analisis deskriptif. Tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah untuk
menganalisa dan menjelaskan tahap-tahap yang dilalui oleh Desmond Doss dalam
perjalanannya menjadi seorang pahlwan dalam film Hacksaw Ridge. Teori yang
digunakan dalam penelitian ini adalah teori hero’s journey yang dikemukakan
oleh Joseph Campbell dan didukung oleh teori film karena subjeknya adalah film.
Menurut Campbell, ada tiga tahap dalam perjalanan seorang pahlawan yaitu
Departure, Initiation, dan Return. Dari analisis ini, bisa ditemukan bahwa dalam
perjalananya Desmond Doss hanya melewati tahap departure dan initiation
sedangkan tahap return tidak bisa ditemukan. Meski demikian, bisa disimpulkan
bahwa perjalanan Desmond Doss sesuai dengan pola perjalanan hero oleh Joseph
Campbell dan akhirnya Desmond Doss bisa dikatakan sebagai hero dalam film

Using appropriate
language in advertisements has a big deal in getting consumers’ attention.
Especially in YouTube advertisements, an utterance is one of the needed elements
used. Through the utterance, the advertisers or addressers can inform and
promote about their products. Therefore, this research analyzes about the
utterances in Maybelline New York advertisements. It is a descriptive qualitative
research. This research provides a detailed descriptions of the data. The data
collecting technique that is used in this research is documentation. Using language
function theories from Roman Jakobson, this research aims to find the language
functions used in Maybelline advertisements. The writer takes 20 videos from
YouTube as the data. Among 173 utterances in the videos, 5 utterances use
referential, conative, phatic, and emotive functions, 2 utterances use referential,
conative, phatic, and poetic functions, 27 utterances use referential, conative, and
phatic functions, 7 utterances use referential, conative, and emotive functions, 55
utterances use referential, conative, and poetic functions, 76 utterances use
referential, and conative functions, and 1 utterance uses referential, conative,
emotive and poetic functions. Since this research analyzes about advertisements,
the writer find all utterances in the Maybelline advertisements use referential and
conative functions. In the Maybelline advertisements, the addresser uses
referential functions to describe about the products, conative functions to
convince the addressees to buy the Maybelline products. Some of them use
emotive functions to express addressers’ feeling, and use phatic functions to
attract addressees’ attention, use poetic functions with aesthetic utterances to
make it easy to remember, Salah satu fungsi bahasa adalah untuk sebuah iklan. Dengan menggunakan
bahasa yang tepat dalam iklan memiliki peran penting untuk menarik perhatian
pembeli. Khususnya dalam iklan YouTube, tuturan adalah salah satu unsur yang
penting. Melalui tuturan, pengiklan atau pembicara dapat menginformasikan dan
mempromosikan produk mereka. Maka dari itu, penelitian ini meneliti tentang

MALEFICENT CHARACTERThis research analyzes a movie entitled Maleficent. Maleficient movie by
Robert Stromberg tells about a woman who is betrayed by someone she trusts and
then she takes revenge. This movie is interesting to be analyzed since it takes
point of view from the main cast that is usually in other similar story described as
a villain but in this movie we can see her other personality. This research aims to
find out how to illustrate Maleficent’s leadership in the Maleficent movie. In this
literary work, researcher focuses on the leadership character of the Maleficent to
get the portrayed in Maleficent’s characters that compatible with leadership
concept by Greenleaf. Data analysis method of this research is qualitative
descriptive. Researcher uses film theory by Amy Villarejo and servant-leadership
by Robert K. Greenleaf as theories. There are 10 concepts of servant-leadership
that coined by Greenleaf. They are listening, empathy, healing, awareness,
persuasion, conceptualization, foresight, stewardship, commitment to the growth
of people, and build the community. From the 10 concepts of servant leadership
by Greenleaf, researcher classified the characters of leadership that portrayed in
Maleficent character in Maleficent film. The researcher also uses some images
and dialogues to support the material analysis of movie. The results of this
analysis, researcher has found 23 Maleficent’s leadership characters which are
compatible with 10 concepts of servant leadership by Robert. K. Greenleaf.
Servant-leadership is leadership that serves-first and not an authoritarian leader.
Servant-leader prefers trust, openness and non-coercion in her leadership.Penelitian ini menganalisa sebuah film berjudul Maleficent. Film
Maleficient karya Robert Stromberg ini menceritakan seorang wanita yang
dikhianati oleh orang kepercayaannya dang ingin balas dendam. Film ini menarik
untuk diteliti karena pengambilan sudut pandang dari pemain utamanya yang
biasanya dalam cerita serupa digambarkan sebagai penjahat namun pada film ini
kita bisa melihat karakternya yang lain. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mencari
tahu bagaimana gambaran kepemimpinan Maleficent dalam film Maleficent.
Dalam karya sastra ini, peneliti fokus pada karakter kepemimpinan dari
Maleficent untuk mendapat gambaran kepemimpinan Maleficent yang cocok
dengan konsep kepemimpinan oleh Greenleaf. Metode analisis data dari penelitian
ini adalah deskripsi kualitatif. Peneliti menggunakan teori film dari Amy Villarejo
dan teori servant-leadership dari Greenleaf. Kesepuluh konsep kepemimpinan
dari Greenleaf adalah mendengarkan, empati, penyembuhan, kesiagaan,
kepercayaan, tinjauan kemasa depan, stewardship, komitmen untuk
menumbuhkan masyarakat, dan membangun komunitas. Dari sepuluh konsep
servant-leadership dari Greenleaf, peneliti mengelompokan karakter
kepemimpinan Maleficent yang tergambar dari film Maleficent. Peneliti juga
menggunakan gambar dan dialog untuk mendukung materi analisa dari film. Hasil
dari penelitian ini, peneliti menemukan 23 karakter kepemimpinan Maleficent
cocok dengan 10 konsep dari kepemimpinan pelayanan dari Robert. K. Greenleaf,
Yaitu kepemimpinan pelayanan yang melayani terlebih dahulu dan bukan

IN AVATAR MOVIEThis research analyzed a movie entitle Avatar. Avatar movie by James Cameron
tells about conflict in Pandora which inflicts war between human and native of
Pandora. This movie is form of narrative manner, whereas in John Perkins’s book
entitle Confession of Economic Hit-Man is also part of narration. Those two
narratives have similarity in the description of America Capitalism. This research
aims to find similarity between American capitalism portrayed in Avatar movie
and John Perkins’s book entitled Confession of Economic Hit-Man. Confession of
Economic Hit-Man The method that uses in this research is qualitative descriptive.
This research offers detail description. The method of collecting data uses
documentation. By using comparative literature, this research analyzed about
comparison between Avatar movie which contain of America capitalism and John
Perkins’s book entitled Confession of Economic Hit-Man. The result of this
research finds that there are some stages in the Avatar movie which have
similarity with John Perkins’s description of capitalism in Confession of
Economic Hit-Man. The first stage is the Resources Development Administration
which portrayed of corporatrocacy or manifest destiny. The second stage is the
avatar mission which describes as Peace Corp in John Perkins’s description in
Confession of Economic Hit-Man. The third one is diplomacy solution which
similar with the debt analysis in America capitalism system. From that stage there
are two possibilities, accepted which resemble of debt realization and failed which
has war consequence. In this stage, acceptance does not describe in the movie,

Hit-Man. Hasil dari penelitian ini penulis menemukan tahapan dari kapitalisme
dalam Avatar film mempunyai kesamaan dalam John Perkins deskripsi

SHORT STORY OF BARTLEBY THE SCRIVENER A STORY OF WALL STREET BY HERMAN MELVILLEA short story is one of popular culture products. A short story tells the
literary work whether non-fiction or fiction. This short story tells about a man
work in the lawyer’s office as the photocopier of document. Bartleby is old man
as new worker at that office. The writer uses this story as her analysis object by
using speech act theory upon Bartleby and the lawyer’s utterances. The theory
describes function in every utterances.
This analysis draws conclusion that there are 32 of Bartleby’s utterances.
There are four major functions, those are: declarations, representatives, expressive
and directives. Declarations in Bartleby’s utterances consist of two types: (1)
deciding amount to 8, and (2) delaying amount to 2. Representatives consist of
two types: (1) informing amount to 18, and (2) asserting amount to 1. Directives
consist two types: (1) questioning amount to 1, and (2) requesting amount to 1.
Expressive In Bartleby’s utterances only have one type named complaining which
is amount to 1 utterance. There are 48 of the lawyer’s utterances found in the short
story with the following details: declarations 2, representatives 7, directive 39, and
expressive 4.Those data are all including in the functions of speech act. Based on
the lawyer’s utterances, those are declaration only has one kind named deciding,
representative has two kinds (informing and asserting), directive has four kinds
(command, suggestion, questioning and requesting), and expressive has three
kinds (complaining, apologizing and lauding).Then Bartleby’s and the lawyer’s
dialogs doesn’t use commissive the function of speech act on their utterances.Cerita pendek merupakan salah satu karya sastra yang mengalami
perkembangan signifikan pada zaman sekarang. Cerita pendek menceritakan
sebuah karya sastra dari fiksi maupun non-fiksi. Cerita pendek ini menceritakan
tentang seorang pekerja di sebuah kantor pengacara, dia sebagai fotocopi
dokumen. Bartleby adalah seorang laki-laki tua sebagai pekerja baru di kantor
tersebut. Penulis menggunakan cerita ini sebagai objek penelitian dengan
menggunakan teori speech act pada tuturan Bartleby dan pengacara. Teori ini
menjelaskan tentang fungsi speech act pada setiap tuturan.
Penelitian ini menghasilkan kesimpulan bahwa ada 32 ujaran Bartleby.
Ada empat fungsi dalam ujaran Bartleby yaitu: deklarasi, representasi, ekspresi
dan direktif. Adapun perinciannya sebagai berikut: data deklarasi dari tuturan
Bartleby memiliki dua jenis yaitu: (1) memutuskan yang berjumlah 8 ujaran, (2)
menunda dengan jumlah 2 ujaran. Data representasi dari tuturan Bartleby
memiliki dua jenis: (1) memberitahu dengan jumlah 18, (2) memastikan dengan
jumlah 1. Data ekspresi dari tuturan Bartleby hanya memiliki satu jenis yaitu
menyangkal. Dalam penelitian ini, penulis juga menemukan ada 48 ujaran

To seek data, this writer employs qualitative research, documentation method. This ignores number prioritizing number and puts the depth concepts of certain cases in the data classifications. Also, it uses Lakoff and Johnson (1980) to classify the metaphor forms whilst Halley’s formulation (in Wahab, 1991: 86) is applied to determine target domain and source domain. The findings are as follows:
First, the words that realize death as target domain in Wordsworth Dictionary of Quotation can be classified into; (1) metaphor: colors, cure, nothing, anything, and privilege. (2) metaphor expression: doing something (open, provide, stops, approach, stands, and lies), and feelings (fear, pleasure, and proud). Second, the concept of source domains in Wordsworth Dictionary of Quotation that found in metaphor of death in this book is human, being, object, and substance. Human is the highest proportion in the data at 8 whilst the smallest proportion is substance with single data. Human is the overwhelming data since the death is described with the quality, act, and respond.
Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mendiskripsikan hubungan antara kognisi penutur Bahasa Inggris mengenai kata kematian melalui metafora dan ungkapan metaforis. Data diambil dari Wordsworth Dictionary of Quotation edited by Connie Robertson. Penulis memilih data kutipan dikarenakan kutipan merupakan kata yang berdaya kuat dari orang berpengaruh dan mewakili perasaan manusia. Selanjutnya, penelitian kualitatif ini menggunakan metode dokumentasi sekaligus memperioritaskan klasifikasi data daripada jumlah item. Dalam mengalisis data, penulis memakai bentuk metafora dari Lakoff dan Johnson (1980) dan didukung oleh klasifikasi Haley (dalam Wahab, 1991: 86) untuk memilah ranah target dan ranah sumber. Hasil penelitian sebagai berikut:
Pertama, realisasi kata kematian dalam Wordsworth Dictionary of Quotation edited by Connie Robertson adalah (1) metafora: warna, obat, tidak bernilai, apapun, dan keistimewaan, (2) ungkapan metaforis: melakukan sesuatu, seperti membuka, menyediakan, berhenti, mendekat, berdiri, dan berbaring, dan perasaan seperti ketakutan, kebanggan, dan kepuasan. The writer use qualitative method that describes the meaning of Hero’s Journey by Joseph
Campbell and how the theory could be applies in Zootopia movie.
Theory of Heroism by Joseph Campbell is the main reference to analyze this Zootopia
movie. From the analysis can be concluded that application of heroism aspects that explained
by Joseph Campbell in his theory has suitability with the main character in Zootopia movie.

The method used in this research is qualitative which uses descriptive analysis. The descriptive function used in this research is to descriptive what is hero's journey and apply it to Black Swan movie. This is interesting because the movie of Black Swan is a psychology movie,which is most journals or researches analyze using psychoanalysis. In this research, the writer sees another side that is different from the usual, that is the side of hero's journey of the main character in this movie.

research uses qualitative method to describe the data that are identified as Jan’s and
May’s indirect speech acts. This research uses theory of speech acts proposed by John
Austin and John R. Searle. To identify illocutionary acts on the indirect speech acts,
this research tries to interpret the dialogues between Jan and May by considering and
understanding the context of situation. After doing the analysis, this research has
found 159 data of Jan’s and May’s indirect speech acts in The Single Moms Club
movie. They are divided into 77 data of Jan’s utterances and 82 data of May’s
utterances. The data consist of five kinds of illocutionary acts; they are
representatives, expressives, directives, commisives, and declaratives. This research
also concludes the characters of Jan and May as white and black woman in
performing the illocutionary acts on their indirect speech acts. In representative, Jan
is described as stubborn and impolite person and May is described as caring and

something that is said to attract someone’s attention. However, it also becomes the
problem between Hello and the theme of regret. This research uses descriptive
analysis method that is applied in qualitative method which leads to the library
research. Based on the analysis, this research describes the portrayal of regret in
Adele’s “hello” song. This research uses objective approach by applying New
Criticism theory. The researcher uses close reading technique to collect the data,

Yet the problem is not every deictic expression, or also called indexical, cannot be understood by only seeing its meaning semantically. It needs context to know how deixis works. This research entitled AN ANALYSIS OF DEIXIS IN LOIS LOWRY’S NOVEL THE GIVER focuses on the analysing of deixis word used by Jonas in English novel The Giver. The aims of this research are to describe the type of deixis, to understand the reference of deictic expressions, and to discover the most dominant deictic expression and the most dominant reference in the deictic expressions used by Jonas in Lois Lowry’s novel The Giver. The data are taken from an English novel entitled The Giver written by Lois Lowry and analysed by using Stephen C. Levinson theory. The method of this research is a descriptive qualitative. The result of this research shows that there are 869 data from 296 Jonas’s utterances which contain deixis. From the data, this research discovers five major types of deixis by Levinson. Those are 689 data (79.29%) belonging to person deixis, 43 data (4.95%) belonging to time deixis, 18 data (2.07%) belonging to place deixis, 43 data (4.95%) belonging to social deixis, and 76 data (8.75%) belonging to discourse deixis. There some deictic expressions that are included into only one type of deixis. There are also some deictic expressions that are included into more than one type depending on its use. There are some deictic expressions that has only one reference such as my, myself, me and mine that refer to Jonas/the speaker. On the other hand, there are some expressions that have more than one reference, such as I refers to Jonas and someone who is given orders in the community/common people. Thirdly, the most dominant deictic expression used by Jonas is “I” which includes in first singular person deixis. Deictic expression “I” is occurred in 247 data. This research focuses on the study of translation shifts that classify the translation shift of adjective phrase and also describes the equivalence of the adjective phrase with its translation. This research uses descriptive qualitative method. With this method, the objects of analysis are adjective phrases on both novels. The data are obtained from the novel “The Picture of Dorian Gray” for the source text while the target texts are obtained from “Lukisan Dorian Gray”. In the data collecting techniques, the writer uses documentation technique. The data analyzes by applying translation theories from Catford and Nida. These theories aim to find the translation shift in the adjective phrases based on the category shift and level shift and the translation equivalence by comparing two languages in both novels in order to achieve the objectives of study to describe the translation shift and translation equivalence. The result of the research shows that there are 323 adjective phrase shifts that are found in the translation. This research finds that there are 136 data belong to structure shift, 82 data belong to class shift consist of adjective phrases that are translated into noun phrase, verb phrase, and noun, 34 data belong to unit shift that consist of adjective phrases that are translated into adjective and adjective clause and 71 data belong to level shift. Another Cinderella Story movie. The purposes of this research are to describe
what are the impoliteness strategies that used by the characters in Another
Cinderella Story movie and how the characters use and respond toward the
impoliteness. The data of this research are the utterances of the characters in
Another Cinderella Story movie that contain the impoliteness. These are analyzed
descriptively based on the impoliteness theory proposed by Culpeper. This
research is described using descriptive qualitative approach. The results show that
the characters in the movie use 5 kinds of super strategies from Culpeper. Those
are bald on record, positive impoliteness, negative impoliteness, sarcasm or mock
politeness, and withhold politeness. There are 97 data of impoliteness strategies
that used by the characters in this movie: 17 data of bald on record, 53 data of
positive impoliteness, 15 data of negative impoliteness, 5 data of sarcasm or mock
politeness, and 7 data of withhold politeness. The speakers have reason why they
perform the impoliteness. They perform the impoliteness because the hearer
provokes them to do that. There are four responses from the hearer toward the
impoliteness. Those are not responding, accepting impoliteness, defensive

feel secure toward those feelings, she becomes a drunken woman. She is an
interesting character because a drunken people usually does not care the condition
around him/her. She is different, she still has social sensitivity. This research aims
to describe type and factor of anxiety that is used by Rachel, and to explain the
defense mechanism as a strategy to reduce her anxiety. This research applies
Psychoanalysis theory by Sigmund Freud to analyze the anxiety and defense
mechanism that appear in Rachel’s character. The researcher uses a qualitative
method of study. The researcher explains the data by categorizing the data,
making some list about the anxious event, looking for the defense mechanism, and
analyzing the data. From the analysis, it can be concluded that Rachel suffers all
the type of anxiety; neurotic, moral, and realistic anxiety. Finally, to cope

USED BY MAUDY AYUNDAThe development of globalization era influences people ability in using
more than one language. This ability makes people tend to switch or to mix their
mother tongue with other languages. In Indonesia, there are so many actresses and
actors who are often using code-switching and code-mixing in their utterances.
One of Indonesian actress who often uses code-switching and code-mixing is
Maudy Ayunda. In her video entitled Question and Answer with @MaudyAyunda
(part 1) and (part 2): Student Life at Oxford, she switches and mixes her
utterances, which is in bahasa Indonesia, with English. This research focuses in
analyzing Maudy Ayunda’s utterances which are contained code-switching and
code-mixing in the video as the data of the research. The aims of this research are
to find out the types of code-switching and code-mixing, the reasons of using it,
and the occurrence of interference as the impact of code-switching and codemixing
usage. This research uses descriptive qualitative research method. The
data are analyzed using code-switching and code-mixing theory by Hoffman and
Ohoiwutun and interference theory by Hoffman and Chaer and Agustina. The
result of this research shows that there are three types of code-switching, such as :
inter-sentential switching occurs 50 times, emblematic switching occurs 5 times
and establishing continuity with the previous speaker occurs 1 time, and two
types of code-mixing, such as: intra-sentential switching occurs 54 times and
intra-lexical code-mixing occurs 7 times in both video. This research also found
that there are six reasons of using code-switching and code-mixing. Those are 19
data talking about particular topic, 3 data repetition used for clarification, 9 data
takes the form of interjection (inserting sentence fillers or sentence connectors),
42 data the intention of clarifying the speech content for the interlocutor, 6 data
need filling motive, and 38 data prestige filling motive. This research also found
that there are three types of interference as the impact of code-switching and codemixing
usage (in the data of code-switching and code-mixing). Those are
interference at the phonological level, interference at the grammatical level, and
morphological interference.

of ambitious children in Belitong, a beautiful place in Indonesia. The novel is sold
in million copies in all around the world. There are many Indonesian compound
noun in Indonesian version. Thus, the researcher is interested to investigate how
the Indonesian compound nouns are translated in English version, and what
prosedures are used in translating Indonesian compound noun. This research uses
descriptive qualitative method. To analyze the procedures, the researcher uses
theory of translation procedure by Peter Newmark. The result shows that from
621 data of the Indonesian compound nouns, they are translated into single root
161 cases, compound noun 341 cases, noun phrase 109, clause 6 cases, a letter 1
case and not translated one case. Besides, the procedures used are 12 procedures.
Those are literal translation 176 times, transference 5 times, descriptive equivalent
18 times, shift 113 times, modulation 118 times, recognized translation 2 times,
translation label 1 time, reduction 30 times, expansion 4 times, addition 7 times,
couplet 119 times and triplet 18 times. Thus, the frequent form is English

Grice’s Maxim in “Chappie Movie”. This research examines about utterances
uses by Chappie in Chappie movie. Chappie is a movie directed by Neill
Blomkamp which is released in 2015. It tells about American science fiction
comedy. This research aims to describe: (1) the following maxim uses by Chappie
and (2) the breaching maxim uses by Chappie in the conversation of the movie.
The basic theory in this research is cooperative principle by Grice that divide into
four maxims. This research uses descriptive method, accumulates the data to
analyze the problems that are examined. Another method is qualitative, researcher
as the main device. Data accumulation are obtained by analyzing the script of the
movie. The result of the analysis concludes, there are 69 of Chappie’s utterances
that relate with cooperative principle; 29 utterances follow the quantity maxim, 27
utterances follow the quality maxim, 49 utterances follow the relation maxim, and
61 utterances follow the manner maxim. On the other hand, there are 35
Chappie’s utterances that breach the maxims; 23 utterances of quantity maxim, 2
utterances of quality maxim, 9 utterances of relation maxim, and 1 utterance of
manner maxim. Chappie often follows the maxim, especially manner and relation

CHICKEN CAME TO TOWN’The writer chooses the story of After Cowboy Chicken Came to Town to be
analyzed because the theme of the story is strongly relating to the intervention of
American cultures in China. The presentation of this intervention is narrated
trough the Chinese’s view. This view gives the preference over the American
cultures. But this preference influences the cultural identity of the Chinese. This
research attempts to find the clash of cultures which occurred in the story. The
method of this research is a qualitative method that is done by applying
descriptive analysis. The objective of this study is to describe the clash of cultures
between America and China in “After Cowboy Chicken Came to Town”. The
theory used in this research is Narratology theory proposed by Mieke Ball. The
writer more focuses on the focalization included in the layer of story. Based on
this focus, the focalized object relating to the culture clash can be seen from the
point where the focalizors stand. The analysis shows that there are two categories
considered as the clash of cultures. The result of the study concludes that the clash
of cultures shown in the story first happens in the field of communication
including language and manners toward people. Second, this happens in the
customs relating to the food, for food has important role in this story.

It aims to find out the translation strategies used by the translator in translating taboo words and to identify the quality of the translation. This research is descriptive qualitative research. The source of data is Of Mice and Men novel and its Indonesia translation. The data are the sentences containing taboo words in the novel that consist of 97 data. This research employes a theory from Baker to analyze the translation strategy and theory a theory from Nida to analyze the quality of translation. The results of the analysis show that there are four strategies employed in the translation of taboo word. They are translation by more general words (18 data), translation by neutral words (36 data), translation by cultural substitutions (10 data) and translation by omissions (33 data). For the quality of translation, the results show that 45 data have very good quality, 29 data have good quality and 23 data have poor quality. aim of this research is to find the meaning of the depiction denotatively and

semiotics theory by Roland Barthes. It explores the meaning of the depiction of
Susanna and the significance it. In analyzing the data, this research uses
descriptive qualitative method. As the result, the researcher finds that Susanna is

Thus, the patriarchal culture is used by men to legitimate their practices in order to
claim and sustain a leading position in social life. This research sets to analyze the
practices of masculinities exercised by male characters in I am Malala. The
practices refer to things men do in certain ways in order to affirm and preserve
men’s identity and identification. The research uses an objective approach by
applying hegemonic masculinity theory by R. W. Connell which deals with
investigating the practices and the way in which men can gain authority and
dominant position in social relations. Moreover, it also deals with the causes of
masculine practices by regarding masculinities as social practices. Furthermore, in
the research, it can be found practices to be categorized as hegemonic masculinities.
Those are dreaming to be martyr, fighting against infidels, feuding among familial,
humiliating the birth of baby girl, speaking in public, learning at school, providing
household needs, honor killing, and selling bride. By exercising the practices, male
characters define their masculinities. The practices are accepted without any
resistance since the cultural ideal of masculinity is embedded in social institution
such as religion, government, school, and family. To inscribe hegemony, the
practices are exercised in the milieu of violence acts. There are physical violence;

(THE STUDY OF GOVERNMENT AND BINDING THEORY)Newspaper is a print publication issued daily, weekly, or at regular times
that provides news, features, information of interest to the public, and advertising.
The most noticeable thing in a newspaper is the headline. Headline is short title
printed above news report. Newspaper headlines can be very difficult to
understand. Some words maybe omitted in order to make it brief, eye catching,
and simple, so it can be read quickly and fitted into a small space in the
newspaper. This research mainly focuses on syntactic analysis by using one of
syntax theories, namely Government and Binding theory (GB) to reveal the use of
movement transformations in The Jakarta Post headlines. GB was first introduced
by Chomsky in 1981. This research uses descriptive qualitative method. The data
are taken from The Jakarta Post newspaper issued from 1-11 November 2016 by
purposive sampling technique. This research uses 11 headlines as data, which five
of them are categorized as headline with omitted words. From five headlines with
omitted word are found four word classes that are omitted, they are: determiners,
nouns, auxiliaries, and prepositions. The deletion of determiner ‘an’ occurs only
once in datum 4. The deletion of Noun head of NP occurs three times, they are;
Noun skippers in datum 1, Noun people in datum 2, and Noun suspects in datum
