There is a speaker in the first line who wants to tell about time. Time which never can stop running in our life as a clock, thus time becomes something close to life. There are only 14 lines in sonnet 12 but there are a lot of things in the meaning. There are so many symbols refer to time and give dualism meanings about youth. Some of symbols that refer to time represent youth and in another way, they stand for something useless and also threatening. Youth is the time in human phase that gives a lot of chance. There are healthy body and fresh mind while young in human phase, but sonnet 12 makes the useful value in youth turn into the things that are useless. The researcher finds an odd thing in youth term that has been described in sonnet 12 through its text. The researcher uses New Criticism theory for focus on the form because the form of poetry stands as a fact. The point of view of New Criticism helps the form to work on its function. The form of poetry makes the poetry beyond the time. The sonnet 12 as poetry can relate to the present and New Criticism fits on it. The New Criticism theory focuses on metaphor or ambiguity, paradox, irony and tension of sonnet. The New Criticism emphasizes close reading as a way to engage with a text, and pays close attention to the interactions between form and meaning. The paradigm of New Criticism is formalism. The form of poetry works as a preservative. The researcher finds many symbols that are contradictory, such as: brave day and hideous night, grow and die, also summer‟s green and Time‟s scythe. The phrases brave day, summer‟s green and also violet past prime refer to youth and the contradictory phrases refer to something that has been missed in vain. The youth as a crucial phase in lifetime is portrayed in detail through sonnet 12. A whole text gives an irony meaning, there is a naive role that wastes time while young in a limited time.NIM. 13150048 Istiqomah2019-03-15T07:54:10Z2019-03-15T07:54:10Zhttp://digilib.uin-suka.ac.id/id/eprint/33875This item is in the repository with the URL: http://digilib.uin-suka.ac.id/id/eprint/338752019-03-15T07:54:10ZTHE REPRESENTATION OF ERIN GRUWELL IN THE FREEDOM WRITERS MOVIEFilms are one of the literary works that have a close relation with people‘s lives. In an utterance, the understanding really depends on the level of someone’s knowledge to the language. In linguistics, the study focusing on meaning is called semantics. The meaning of an utterance or literary work not only can be understood by lexical meaning, but also context determines the meaning. In this case, meaning which is constructed by context of another sentence is called contextual meaning. There are so many literary works which only can be understood by its contexts. One of them is song lyric. Song is one of the most famous literary work lately. However, some song lyrics use various diction whose meaning is difficult to be understood. Counting Stars and Apologize are two songs that have various diction, and the meaning only can be understood by their contexts. That is why, this research aims to discover the contextual meaning of those two songs through contextual meaning theory of Pateda. The result of the research shows that there are twenty six lyrics which stand from word, phrase, and sentence having contextual meaning of those two songs. Seventeen of the found data belong to Counting stars song lyric and nine data belong to Apologize song lyric. Those seventeen data of Counting Stars are classified into three kinds of contexts. They are contexts of situation, contexts of purpose, and contexts of speaker or listener mood. While those nine data found in the Apologize song lyrics are divided into three types of context. They are context of purpose, contexts of contexts of Speaker or Listener mood, and contexts of time. Overall, there are 4 contexts found in those two songs. They are context of purpose, contexts of situation, contexts of Speaker or Listener mood, and contexts of timeNIM. 14150046 Arif Bahtiar2019-01-17T04:10:10Z2019-01-17T04:10:10Zhttp://digilib.uin-suka.ac.id/id/eprint/32492This item is in the repository with the URL: http://digilib.uin-suka.ac.id/id/eprint/324922019-01-17T04:10:10ZWESTERN STEREOTYPE THROUGH EASTERN REPRESENTATION AS SEEN IN THE FILM EAT PRAY LOVE: POST-COLONIAL STUDYThis research aims at analysing Eat Pray Love movie which researcher believes contains an issue related to West and East. This research focuses on domination and authority of West over East. This research employs Orientalism theory by Edward Said which says that Orientalism leads to domination of Western over Orient. “Orientalism can be discussed and analyzed as the corporate institution for dealing with the Orient-dealing with it by making statements about it, authorizing views of it, describing it.........: in short, Orientalism as Western style for dominating, restructuring, and having authority over the Orient (Said, 2003:32). Film theory is applied to help the researcher to examine shots and anything related to filming, especially the setting technique. After examining film thouroughly; starting with Liz who tries to find what she wants in life, Liz’s conflicts, and the methods she takes to recover herself which is by traveling to Italy, India, and Bali, the researcher concludes that Eat Pray Love still contains Western stereotype about Eastern people like what Edward Said says about Orientalism. Eastern countries and their people are depicted in this film as simple-minded people who do not have the power against the Western authority, or on the other hand, the Western people are depicted as well educated people with big authority in both of their own countries and in Eastern countries.NIM. 14150036 ALFI RAMADHANI2019-01-17T04:02:40Z2019-01-17T04:02:40Zhttp://digilib.uin-suka.ac.id/id/eprint/32490This item is in the repository with the URL: http://digilib.uin-suka.ac.id/id/eprint/324902019-01-17T04:02:40ZTRANSLATION IDEOLOGY OF CULTURAL WORDS USED IN THE

animation and science fiction movie that tells about heroism. Heroism is an
important topic to be analyzed because all people in this world need a heroic
action in their life. People can do the act of heroism at least for themselves. In this
movie, heroism can be seen in two different characters; round and flat character.
Both characters can determine the process of their journey to be a hero. The
researcher wants to analyze how round and flat characters can be categorized into
patterns of hero‟s journey. It aims to find how both characters show differences
while they undergo the same patterns of the journey. To answer the problem
statement, the researcher uses Joseph Campbell‟s theory of hero‟s journey and
film theory proposed by Amy Villarejo as well to support and to improve the
analysis. The researcher also applies qualitative descriptive as the research
method. The result shows that the roundness of the character is equal to the
completeness of hero‟s journey and the flatness of the character is equal to

The theme of this film emphasizes heroism. Then, the writer chooses to discuss the trip to be a hero undergone by Moana as the main character in the film. Moana is presented uniquely as the daughter of the village chief of a Polynesian tribe. She becomes her father's successor. She must find Maui to rescue her villagers. She has to cross the ocean to find Maui and restore Te Fiti's heart. The purpose of this study is to analyze and explain the steps that are passed by Moana in the film. The theory applied in this research is Hero's Journey Theory presented by Joseph Campbell and Film Theory. Based on Campbell's theory, there are three stages through which a hero travels, begins, and returns. Based on the analysis, Moana only undergoes 2 stages of the stages of departure and the beginning. Nevertheless, the journey is still in line with Joseph Campbell's hero's journey although the last stage is not found and the hero is there.NIM. 11150015 KHOIRIFATIN AWWALINA2019-01-17T02:11:23Z2019-01-17T02:11:23Zhttp://digilib.uin-suka.ac.id/id/eprint/32472This item is in the repository with the URL: http://digilib.uin-suka.ac.id/id/eprint/324722019-01-17T02:11:23ZA PORTRAYAL OF LONELINESS AS SEEN IN SIMPLE

any stages of lifecycle. The theme loneliness itself is depicted in the song lyric
Astronaut by Simple Plan. The writer uses qualitative research as the method and
combines with the interpretative approach to give more explanation about the
song lyric as the object of research. Close reading method significantly has an
important role in this research, especially when the writer collects the data and
analyzes the lyric. By finding each little aspect or intrinsic element using close
reading, the writer uses new criticism theory to interpret the meaning of the lyric.
The presence of literary theory, such as New criticism carries four (4) main
concepts analysis of meaning like ambiguity, irony, paradox, and tension. Those
elements are compulsory to discover the purpose and the meaning of the lyric.
Regardless this analysis may give a closer look how the loneliness is portrayed
within 39 lines of lyrics and 7 stanzas. The outcome of this study is the writer

This story directed by Vince Gilligan is about chemistry teacher, Walter White, who is diagnosed cancer in the birth of fifty. To survive his life, Walter does whatever it takes that in the end of the day leads him to the world of drugs dealing. As main character, Walter is quite ambiguous whether he is good or evil because he possesses both good and bad personality at the same time. By the time the researcher finds that Walter has the characteristic of being hero and antihero, it can be inferred that there is shifting characterization in the middle of the story. Therefore, the researcher uses consistency theory by William Kenney to analyze the character through the story itself. To support the analysis, since the object is film, the researcher also applies Film Theory by Amy Villarejo to reach the point of a deeper analysis. The researcher categorizes the discussion into three parts of analysis which are Hero, Antihero and The Shifting Characterization. The researcher then analyzes Walter White based on the characteristic of hero and antihero using M.H Abram‟s concept related to the whole plot in order to prove and explain the shifting happened. Hero manifests largeness, dignity, power and heroism meanwhile antihero is petty, ignominious, passive, ineffectual and dishonest. By analyzing the categories related to the plot, the shifting characterization is explainable. Then the researcher is able to conclude the truth of Walter White based on the variable found in a way that he plausibly is an antihero.NIM. 14150047 MUHAMMAD PRIMASTRI JATI2018-11-15T03:53:01Z2018-11-15T03:53:01Zhttp://digilib.uin-suka.ac.id/id/eprint/31528This item is in the repository with the URL: http://digilib.uin-suka.ac.id/id/eprint/315282018-11-15T03:53:01ZTHE ENGLISH RENDERING QUALITY OF حيث، الحج، الحق، الحكمة IN SURAH AL-BAQARAH BY MUFTI TAQI USMANI AND MUHSIN KHAN & HILALI : COMPARATIVE STUDYTranslation of the Qur'an is a necessity that needs to be done as a supportive understanding for non-Arab native speaker. Foreignization and domestication postulated by Venuti (1995) are two types of translation strategies that can be employed to overcome the obstacle found in the source language. This research is conducted to describe the foreignization and domestication strategies applied to translate Indonesian cultural words in Jejak Langkah into its English translation Footsteps. This research employs descriptive qualitative method. The data of this research are Indonesian cultural words found in Jejak Langkah and their translated words in Footsteps. In categorizing cultural words, the researcher uses the theory proposed by Newmark (1988). Meanwhile, in analyzing the translation procedures which tend to be foreignization or domestication, the researcher employs the theory from Davies (2003). The result of this research shows that the number of domestication strategies (60.64%) is higher than foreignization strategies (39.37%). This result indicates that to overcome the problem in translating cultural words, the translator tends to reduce the foreignness in the target language text, making the unfamiliar cultural words from source language text can be easily understood by target language text readers.NIM. 14150022 ROSYIDATUL FAIZZAH2018-11-15T02:29:25Z2018-11-15T02:29:25Zhttp://digilib.uin-suka.ac.id/id/eprint/31519This item is in the repository with the URL: http://digilib.uin-suka.ac.id/id/eprint/315192018-11-15T02:29:25ZNAMELESSNESS IN A CLEAN, WELL –LIGHTED PLACE: A STUDY OF FOCALIZATION IN NARRATOLOGYLiterary works such as a novel and a short story have various elements that can influence the plot of its story, and one of these elements is the characters‟ names. This leads the researcher to analyze a short story entitled A Clean, Well-Lighted Place written by Ernest Hemingway because of its uniqueness which presents three main characters that are nameless. These three characters are mentioned as the old man, the older waiter, and the younger waiter. This research aims is to find out the reason why the characters shown are nameless and to identify the implication drawn from the roles of the characters in this short story. The researcher applies a qualitative method which is done with descriptive analysis, and the theory deployed in this research is Narratology theory proposed by Mieke Bal. Here does the researcher focus on the focalization including the layer of the story. The categorization of focalization is a focalizer and a focalized object. There are four points found in the analysis that relate to the role of the characters. The result concludes that the characters are presented nameless because the narrator wants to show the characters generally, and the implication of the roles is to make sure that the information about the characters explained in this short story is true or not.NIM. 14150021 UMMUL UMMATUL FATIMAH2018-11-15T02:25:58Z2018-11-15T02:25:58Zhttp://digilib.uin-suka.ac.id/id/eprint/31518This item is in the repository with the URL: http://digilib.uin-suka.ac.id/id/eprint/315182018-11-15T02:25:58ZFEMALE MASCULINITY AS SEEN IN JOY MOVIEJoy is a movie that tells about the struggles of a single parent named Joy Mangano.
