Abstract

ABSTRAK Telah dilakukan penelitian tentang pengaruh waktu pembuatan biodiesel minyak kelapa sawit menggunakan katalis hydrotalcite (sebagai sumber belajar kimia di SMA/MA). Sintesis Mg/Al hydrotalcite meliputi kajian tentang karakteristik padatan kristal. Hasil penelitian sintesis menunjukkan bahwa Mg/Al hydrotalcite dapat disintesis pada pH 10 dengan metode kopresipitasi secara langsung dengan mereaksikan KAl(SO4)2.12H2O 1 M dan MgCl2.6H2O 2 M dengan larutan NaOH 5 M. Transesterifikasi dilakukan pada jumlah katalis hydrotalcite 3 % dari berat minyak kelap sawit. Reaktan dan katalis direfluk selama 60, 120, 180, 240, 300 dan 360 menit pada titik refluk campuran (+78 oC). Pada reaksi ini terbentuk dua lapisan produk yaitu lapisan etil ester dan lapisan gliserol. Lapisan etil ester kemudian dicuci dengan aquades dan dimurnikan dengan didestilasi pada suhu 110oC. Hasil yang diperoleh menunjukkan hydrotalcite dapat digunakan sebagai katalis dalam reaksi transesterifikasi minyak sawit. Hasil yang diperoleh menunjukkan kenaikan rasio waktu diikuti dengan kenaikan konversi biodiesel. Materi dan proses penelitian ini dapat dijadikan sebagai alternatif sumber belajar yang di SMA/MA. ABSTRACT The object of this research with of the influence of time in biodiesel production of palm oil using catalyzed by Mg/Al hydrotalcite (as alternative resource of chemical learning in SMA/MA) had been done. Study of Mg/Al hydrotalcite synthesis inclutes study of characterization of solid crystal. Mg/Al hydrotalcite as catalys raction transesterification of palm oil had been studied by investigation of kinetics for the raction transesterification of palm oil on Mg/Al hydrotalcite. Result on pH synthesis show that Mg/Al could be synthesized at pH 10 with direct coprecipitation reaction mixture of KAl(SO4)2.12H2O 1 M and MgCl2.6H2O 2 M with NaOH 5 M. The transesterification was performed in the presence of Mg/Al hydrotalcite catalyst 3 % of the weight of palm oil. The reactant and catalyst were refluxed for 60, 120, 180, 240, 300, and 360 minute at 78oC. After cooling two phase were formed, which the upper phase consists of ethyl esters and lower phase contains glycerin. Ethyl ester were separated and purified by distilling the residual ethanol at 110 oC, and wash with aquadest. The result of this research indicated that Mg/Al hydrotalcite influence forming of biodiesel in reaction of transesterifikasi. The result showed that the increasing of time was followed by the increase of biodiesel conversion. The topic and the process of this research can be use as alternative resource of chemical learning in SMA/MA..
