Abstract

This research aimed to determine the presence of decrease in depression before and after expressive writing therapy, also before and after the follow-up in female adolescents with parental divorce. Subjects of this research were female adolescents from Indonesian Institute of Yogyakarta junior high school aged 1215 years old who experience depression in moderate level. This research used Beck Depression Inventory (BDI) depression scaleas the instruments to measure depression. BDI has been translated into Indonesian. The validity and reliability were measured by Susilowati and Hasanat (2011) with the score of reliability coefficient was 0.844 and the index of differences ranged between 0.1936 and 0.6317. The Research design used was non-randomized one-group pretest-posttest design. The results were being analyzed by using Wilcoxon test and were obtained significance value 0.317 from the measurements between before and after therapy (pre-post) and significance value 0.180 from the measurement between post therapy and follow-up. Descriptive data shows a decrease in depression scores between before and after therapy and between post therapy and follow-up.
