Abstract

As the central figure in Christianity, Jesus has been portrayed in many ways along history. Various cultural backgrounds as well as motives influence the image of Jesus. This phenomena let Christian scholars think deeper about the need of contextualization in recent Christian life. Realizing that Christians are spreading out over the world, adaptation and acceptance to diversity is urgently needed. Therefore, they so called Contextual Theology is an appropriate proposal in facing the diversity in Christianity as the influence of indigenous or local culture and other motives, particularly liberation for Christian population in the third world. This paper explores some manifestations of images of Jesus that portrayed in various background whether local culture, political motives, and pop-culture. Keywords: Yesus, Teologi Kontekstual
