Abstract

The aim of this research is to find out representation, supporting factor, and obstacles of adversity quotient of foreign students who are able to adapt in a new place and stay in difficult situation. Subject of this research are foreign students from Thailand in State Islamic University Sunan Kalijaga Yogyakarta. This research applied qualitative approach, while the method used was phenomenology. Qualitative approach with phenomenology method is used to investigate, to answer the research problems, and to obtain the meaning of adversity quotient of foreign students. The result shows several things in relation to the adversity quotient of foreign students. The theme is that picture of adversity quotient foreign students of Thailand such as: (1) control the difficulty by following many organizations, associate and remember the struggles of parents, (2) responsible for completing its task, (3) capable of limiting the issue so as not to interfere with other activities, and (4 ) were able to survive by holding the principle of every difficulty there is relief. Factors influencing the adversity quotient of foreign students include internal and external factors such as: (1) motivation of self and surrounding environment, especially parents, (2) the confidence to finish college with good, (3) individual characters are quiet, shy and not confidence can inhibiting of adversity quotient, while the individual characters were friendly and happy to hang out will support the adversity quotient.
