Abstract

Dompet Dhuafa Jogja and KARINAKAS are both religious-based philanthropic institutions. The first, Dompet Dhuafa, serves as an Islamic-based institution, while KARINAKAS is a Catholic-based one. The emergence of both institutions is a part of goodwill to respond natural disasters that struck Yogyakarta and parts of Central Java in 2006. Dompet Dhuafa Jogja was originated from an extension of the Republika Dompet Dhuafa in Jakarta, while KARINAKAS is under the Archdiocese of Semarang. These two characterize social service agencies. Dompet Dhuafa Jogja has conducted four areas in social services in health, education, economic and mission as well as humanity. KARINAKAS has emphasized the four areas of health, economy, education and social. The article focuses on two formulation of the problem on how the relationship between religious ideology with social services programs in the Dompet Dhuafa Jogja and KARINAKAS and how consideration of these two institutions to the religious affiliation of beneficiaries in both institutions. This study uses Max Weber’s rationalization using a sociological approach and comparative analysis. It includes data processing applying qualitative descriptive analysis. This study shows that religious understanding and programs conducted in both Dompet Dhuafa Jogja and KARINAKAS are interrelated. In the KARINAKAS perspective, religious affiliation of the recipients does not become a major priority for consideration, meaning in the service process KARINAKAS does not distinguish beneficiaries based on class, race, ethnicity and religion. Dompet Dhuafa has a focus on the service of religious affiliation allocated from zakat aspect. Nevertheless, Dompet Dhuafa Jogja also took part in the service of general affiliation that comes from funds other than zakat. Social services of both institutions are still projected to social services in the benefit of humanity.. Key Words: Profil KARINAKAS, Paham Keagamaan, Pelayanan Sosial.
