Abstract

UIN Sunan Kalijaga Yogyakarta library provides collections in the form of a printed book or e-book to meet information needs. Therefore, the purpose of this is to: (1) analyzing the utilization of books printed in information needs on library UIN Sunan Kalijaga Yogyakarta, (2) analyze of utilization electronic books in needs information on library UIN Sunan Kalijaga Yogyakarta, and (3) analyze the differences between the significant of utilization printed books and electronic books in the the needs of information on library UIN Sunan Kalijaga Yogyakarta. This research is quantitative research . Data collection techniques are used namely observation and questionnaire. The sample used as many as 100 students utilize printed books and electronic books in information needs. The research of the theory Leckie who explained that the characteristics of the information needed by utilizing the collection namely accessibility, quality, trustworthiness, timeliness, familiarity, and previous success. The results showed that: (1) the utilization of books printed to get the information needs of the library at the UIN Sunan Kalijaga Yogyakarta mostly fall into the category of either as much as 52,0%, with an average rating of 44.35, (2) the utilization of electronic books in meeting the needs of information on library UIN Sunan Kalijaga Yogyakarta mostly fall into the category is quite good as much as 47.0% with an average value of 39.53 (3) there is a significant difference between the utilization of books printed and electronic books of needs information on library UIN Sunan Kalijaga Yogyakarta. This is demonstrated by the results of a test of Paired t-Test on the utilization of books printed and electronic books have values 0.000 significance and value t calculate 6.536. The value of the calculation results of significance smaller than 0.05 and t count is larger than the t table. In addition it is known to the average rating for utilizing a printed book is better i.e. of 44.35 compared with the utilization of electronic books namely amounting to 39.53.
