Abstract

This study analyzes the representation of Unregistered marriages in an ILC talk show on tvOne episode "Unregistered marriage Legal or No" using Roland Barthes' semiotic analysis. The semiotic analysis of Roland Barthes's model emphasizes the idea of two-stage significance, namely denotation and connotation. Denotation is the objectual definition of the word, while connotation is a subjective meaning or contains emotional values. The purpose of this research is to find out how the representation of Unregistered marriage is constructed by television media, especially the ILC talk show program on tv One. This research uses representation theory according to Stuart Hall. There are several approaches to understanding representations including reflective, intensive and constructivist approaches. This study uses a constructivist representation approach that relates to Roland Barthes' semiotic analysis in interpreting a thing. The unregistered marriage as the object of research in the analysis, the researcher first categorizes the unregistered marriage indicator based on the opinion of Mahmut Syalthut who defines siri marriage in general. This research is a qualitative descriptive study. By observing the object of the study then analyzing the object of the study. Methods of data collection through documentation of ILC episodes of " Unregistered marriage Legal or No " shows then based on indicators that have been categorized. From the analysis carried out by the researcher, the results of this study indicate that there are several stages in constructing the representation of unregistered marriage and the presentation of the ILC talk show represents unregistered marriage into several things based on the unregistered marriage indicator with different meanings.
