Abstract

Marital satisfaction is one of important aspects in a marriage. Marital satisfaction can be influenced by various factors, one of which is the presence of children. There are couples who do not have children, but some of them still can maintain a marriage relationship under the circumstance. This study aims to describe marital satisfaction in men with childless marriage. This research employed qualitative approach with phenomenological method. Data were collected using observation and interview with three male participants who have not had children after more than five years of marriage. Results showed that all three participants have open communication with their respective wives. They solve problems through discussion and have a good, intimate sexual relationship with their spouse. The participants demonstrate flexibility in carrying out their financial role and assume that they as well as their wive are able to manage finances well. Furthermore, findings indicated other factors that influence marital satisfaction, such as trust, commitment, mutual understanding, good communication, loyalty, patience, gratitude, knowledge, and religion. Finally, this study concluded that the absence of children in participants’ marriage is considered a test of life that must be endured and accepted.
