Abstract

This study aims to explain the social motives of the Jlegongan Community Reading Gardens (TBM) in fostering a community information literacy culture. The research method used in this research is qualitative with a descriptive approach. Data collection methods used in this study were observation, interviews, and documentation. Techniques in determining informants using purpose sampling. The data analysis technique used in this study was the Miles and Huberman model data analysis which included data reduction, data presentation and conclusion drawing. The results of this research are conscious social motive, this conscious social motive is to change the way people think that are still left behind so they can think modernly with science and motivate children, especially those in Jlegonan hamlet to be literate or aware of the importance of information and education. In order to achieve this conscious social motive, the manager does several things such as (1) establishing the Jlegongan TBM because the manager feels anxious about the future of the education of the generation of children, especially those in Jlegongan hamlet (2) the manager feels the need to share knowledge and experiences that the manager has. to the special community who are in Jlegongan hamlet (3) the manager hopes that the next generation can have a much better information literacy culture (4) the manager wants to provide a place to play that can be used as a learning place for the people of Jlegongan hamlet (5) the manager is fully aware that the collaboration work that has been done in the two partner schools is unconsciously able to foster a culture of information literacy in the community.
