Abstract

This study aims to determine the information retrieval behavior carried out by digital native in the SMA N 1 Yogyakarta Library and to determine the role of libraries in shaping these digital native information retrieval behavior. This type of research method used is a qualitative method. The data collection techniques used were interviews, observation and documentation. The results of this research can be seen the information search behavior carried out by digital native using information sources, namely Google and also the library. Digital native evaluates information by checking the credibility of the source that provides the information. Choosing information from sources that can be justified and comparing it with various sources, understanding the purpose of information search is carried out by digital natives by looking at the importance of the information sought. The role of libraries in shaping information retrieval behavior can be demonstrated by following technological developments and utilized in providing services and facilities that make it easier for digital native to access information by means of librarians being the best partners in providing services by accompanying all student activities and increasing competence in the form of information and communication technology, interpersonal, and extensive network. Through this research, it is hoped that the digital native generation will be able to search for information not only prioritizing speed in obtaining information, but also knowing the credibility of information providers.
