Abstract

The objective to this research was to know the librarian's interpersonal communication, communication style, the factors that influence the librarian's communication style and the librarian's need for communication style in creating a social inclusion-based library (Case Study in the Library of SMA N 1 Jetis). This study uses a qualitative method. Data were collected through observation, interviews, and documentation. Data analysis in this research is data reduction, data presentation, and verification. The results of this study are (1) Librarian SMAN 1 Jetis uses interpersonal communication to approach library users verbally and nonverbally. (2) First, friendly communication style, can maintain good relations with library users because librarians are easy to adapt. Second, the open communication style, librarian of SMA N 1 Jetis can receive ideas and opinions from library users from the school environment and the community. So that this communication style can create a library based on social inclusion. (2) The friendly and open style of communication occurs because of several factors that influence, including the role, language, and the relationship between librarian and users. These factors influence the librarian's communication style in creating social inclusionbased libraries. (3) Communication style is important for librarians in realizing social inclusion-based libraries. With the communication style owned by the librarian of SMA N 1 Jetis Library, the librarian can act as an educator, facilitator, manager, administrator, and a supervisor in the library. This study provides suggestions that are expected to be a consideration for the Librarian of SMA N 1 Jetis Library, namely improving the librarian's communication skills by attending training, seminars, training, and courses, especially in serving social inclusion library users. And then use language that is easy to understand when communicating.
