Abstract

Da’wah in new media is present as a threat as well as an opportunity for the existence of da'wah activities. HSI (Halaqah Silsilah Ilmiyah) as a da'wah activist answers this challenge by creating contemporary da'wah. HSI's da'wah activities are carried out by transforming the preaching of the old media era to the preaching of the new media era through programs created. Da'wah maddah is conveyed through a variety of contemporary wasilah, WhatsApp as the priority wasilah, web portals and other social media are used as supportive wasilah. This case study is important to see how the process of HSI da’wah in new media, seen from the internal aspect, which is the da'wah actors and the external aspect, which is the da'wah recipient. This research also aims to emphasize why WhatsApp was chosen as a priority media. Other things examined in this study were the virtual congregation's interest in joining, the experiences and perceptions gained, and how HSI's da'wah activities are carried out through contemporary da'wah programs. Da'wah in new media is a form of da'wah chosen by HSI as a response to people who tend to be native digital. This study used a multi-sited ethnographic case study method which assisted the author's field work in analyzing aspects of on-line da'wah communicators (da'i) and da'wah communicants (mad'u). This study was based on the on-line da'wah side, and the off-line da'wah process was used as a support. The results of this study revealed that, HSI chose the virtual da'wah process because of 1) sociological factors, 2) geographical factors. WhatsApp was chosen as the main media because of its flexible value at all times for preachers. The process of propagation development occurs from traditional to cosmopolitan da'wah by maximizing the variety of contemporary media. Furthermore, in contemporary da'wah activities, six concepts of HSI da'wah were found, including: 1) maintaining continuity or authenticity of HSI's da'wah. 2) Integrating online and offline preaching as an effort to balance. 3) Following a structured and systematic education pattern. 4) HSI contemporary da'wah is packaged in da'wah activities through the milineal da'wah program. 5) Militancy maintains regeneration. 6) Utilization of the human aspect by building the character of the Khoirunnas Anfa'uhum Linnas. There were 3 important things related to the experience that was formed: 1) openness 2) acceptance, 3) action. The experience from HSI's da'wah activities provides two perceptions of the congregation, which are religious perceptions and perceptions of technology. The development and renewal of the factors above build xii public trust in the community and become an attraction for the public to join the Halaqah Silsilah Ilmiyah
