Abstract

The Student Facilitator and Explaining (SFAE) learning model is a model that emphasizes the teacher's mastery and delivery of the material at the beginning of the lesson, then the students continue to explain what the teacher has conveyed to their friends. This model invites students to convey the information that has been obtained. Then, in this model, students become facilitators so that they can communicate and increase their experience, which can increase their learning motivation. It can be seen that communication skills and motivation are still lacking in class VI students of SDN Cibadak 1 in PPKN subjects. The purpose of this study was to analyze the effect of the Student Facilitator and Explaining (SFAE) Model on students' communication skills and student learning motivation, and how the implementation of the Student Facilitator and Explaining (SFAE) Model on the communication skills and motivation of sixth grade students at SDN Cibadak 1 Pandeglang-Banten. This study uses a mixed methods research design with a sequential explanatory model, which is carried out using a one-group pretest-posttest research design with a sample of 25 students carried out in the study. Data was collected using observation sheets, interviews, and documentation. The Student Facilitator and Explaining (SFAE) model was used as the independent variable in this study, while the dependent variables in this study were communication skills and student motivation. The results showed that: 1) The Student Facilitator and Explaining (SFAE) model had an effect on students' communication skills. This can be seen from the significant value of Shapiro-Wilk in the pretest (O1) result, which is 0.444 > 0.05, while the posttest (O2) result is 0.028 > 0.05. Then, reinforced by the results of the t-test analysis by using the paired samples t-test, the average pretest value or mean of 32.36 was obtained. Meanwhile, the posttest value was obtained at 41.00. Based on the results of the calculations carried out, it was seen that before and after the implementation of the Student Facilitator and Explaining (SFAE) model, there were differences. Thus, after the model was carried out, it had good results, meaning that the application of this model had an effect on students' communication skills. 2) The Student Facilitator and Explaining (SFAE) model has an effect on student motivation, seen from the calculation results obtained by Shapiro-Wilk's significant value in the pretest (O1) results, namely 0.216 > 0.05, and for the posttest (O2) results, namely 0.320 > 0.05. Then, reinforced by the calculation of the t-test using the paired samples t-test, for the pretest value, an average or mean of 31.88 was obtained. Meanwhile, the posttest value obtained is 40.28. Based on the results of the calculations carried out, it can be seen that before and after the implementation of the Student Facilitator and Explaining (SFAE) model, there are differences. Thus, after the implementation of the model, there are good results, meaning that the application of this model has an effect on student motivation. 3) The Student Facilitator and Explaining (SFAE) model is linked to better communication skills (Y1) and higher student motivation (Y2).The calculation was obtained using the t-test paired sample correlations. sig. 0.000 <0.05 and the correlation value is 0.702 for communication, while for motivation, sig. 0.001 < 0.05 and the correlation value is 0.602. Thus, based on the calculation results that have been obtained, the Student Facilitator and Explaining (SFAE) model can be applied, especially to communication skills and student motivation in civics learning subjects.
