Abstract

The objective of this research was to know the role of library in the development of knowledge science in the Mughal Empire. The benefit of the research was to give visualization and understanding about the role of library in the Mughal Empire. Hopefully by this research, the explanation about the role of library in the development of knowledge science can give insight in scientific treasure to the readers. This research was conducted by the method of historical research with the type research was the study of library research which had descriptive-analytic and as well as qualitative research. The collecting data techniques used was documentat io n. The analysis of data was done in the research was historical analysis technique that consists of four stages, namely: heuristic, verification, interpretation, and historiography. Based on this research, it was able to be elaborated that: (1) The Mughal Empire was one of the last Islamic dynasty in the Indian subcontinent with Delhi as its capital and was a region of absolute sovereignty and was led by a sultan. (2) The Mughal Empire’s attention to the library led to the development of science in the Mughal Empire of India and a good library organization structure with the organization structure consists of the head of the library and library staffs who work in shelving, classification, copying and book binding, and book preservation. The librarians were also helped by the workers in the library organizing. (3) The role of library in the development of knowledge science in the Mughal Empire both directly and indirectly such as education center; translation and copying books center; source of information for the society; depository and public service. By the research, the researcher gives the recommendation so the role of library in the development of knowledge science will be researched further. Therefore, treasure intelectualism in Islam civilization releated to library will be more resulted in the form of texts.
