Abstract

Leadership strategies are used in improving the quality of Islamic boarding schools' education services which are supported by aspects of interpersonal communication. Improving service quality can be done by providing accurate services at Islamic boarding schools. Research on this thesis was conducted at the Imam Syafi'i Islamic Boarding School in Aceh Besar. The aims of this study were: 1) to describe the leadership's strategy in improving the quality of educational services based on interpersonal communication, 2) to describe the dimensions for measuring the quality of educational services in the Imam Syafi'i Islamic boarding school in Aceh Besar, and 3) to find out the obstacles of the leadership in improving the quality of educational services based on interpersonal communication at the Imam Syafi'i Islamic boarding school in Aceh Besar. The type of research conducted was qualitative research with a descriptive approach. Data collection techniques were carried out by observation, documentation, and interviews with four informants (Islamic boarding school leaders, heads of Islamic boarding schools, orphaned students, non-orphaned students). While data analysis uses data reduction techniques, data presentation and conclusion. The results showed that: first, the strategy adopted was to carry out all processes of educational services to students well, to remain focused on each service area, and not to separate school administrative services from Islamic boarding schools, to apply strategies for environmental analysis, planning, organizing, monitoring, evaluating and always build good interpersonal communication. The second dimension in measuring the improvement of the quality of education services at the Imam Syafi'i Islamic boarding school in Aceh Besar can be done by looking at several dimensions, namely input (input/acceptance of students), process (learning process), output (results/students graduating from Islamic boarding schools), tangible (evidence physical/facilities and infrastructure, reliability (reliability/providing services quickly, accurately and satisfactorily), responsiveness (readiness to provide services), assurance (ease in providing services), and empathy (understanding what students need). the lack of availability of teaching staff, the unavailability of laboratory equipment, the pesantren budget is still lacking, and the barriers of interpersonal communication are still frequent errors in interpreting meaning and conveying information.
