Abstract

Modern linguists judge that classical nahwu tends to be complicated, and philosophical-prescriptive, making it difficult for Arabic language learners. Therefore, modern linguists criticize classical nahwu by reconstructing and offering renewal of nahwu to make it easier and simpler. These reformers are Mahdi Al-Makhzumi and Tammam Hassan, in their hands' applied Arabic linguistics will always experience development, so classical Arabic linguistic epistemology needs to be reconstructed so that it can be applied. With this in mind, the research aims to map the epistemology of applied Arabic linguistics (a comparative study of the thoughts of Mahdi Al-Makhzumi and Tammam Hassan). This research is a literature study using a historical approach. The data collection technique used is documentation while the data analysis technique uses content analysis and verification. In addition, this research uses qualitative data with primary data sources (the works of Mahdi Al-Makhzumi and Tammam Hassan) and secondary data (the works of other speakers related to Mahdi Al-Makhzumi and Tammam Hassan). The results of this study are: 1) Applied Arabic linguistics in the style of Mahdi Al-Makhzumi prioritizes studies to rearrange and summarize nahwu material by removing material in several forms, namely kalam which is simpler and does not need to discuss tanazu’. 2) Applied Arabic linguistics in the style of Tammam Hassan in thinking and theory in the field of nahwu using research methods and developing nahwu materials based on Tazafur Al-Qara’in, as elaborated and contextualized by the development of Arabic language education. 3) The meeting point for the development of applied Arabic linguistics is the theory of Taisir al-nahwi al-‘arabi by conducting a comprehensive and critical study in addressing classical Arabic linguistics into modern Arabic linguistics by Mahdi Al-Makhzumi and Tammam Hassan stated that scientific shina'ah (discipline of knowledge) in applied Arabic linguistics is more focused on the study of applied Arabic linguistic methods
