Abstract

Developing a positive body image is an important part of adolescent development. However, many early adolescents struggle with body image issues due to exposure to social media and peer influences. This study aims to explore the relationship between Instagram usage intensity and peer influence on body image among adolescents. The study included 112 early adolescents, and convenience sampling was used to select the participants. The measurement tools used were a body image scale, an Instagram usage intensity scale, and a peer influence scale. Data analysis was conducted using multiple linear regression analysis. The results of the data analysis showed that Instagram usage intensity and peer influence had a negative correlation with body image when examined simultaneously. However, the t-test results indicated that Instagram usage intensity did not have a significant correlation with body image, while peer influence had a negative correlation with body image. The simultaneous contribution of the independent variables to body image was 27.5%, with peer influence contributing 24.4% to the variance in body image.
