Abstract

The translation is essential in our lives nowadays, such as education, literature, and science. Every aspect needs translation skills to understand one language to another. This study aims to analyze the effect of the theory by Newmark on one of his translation methods: the communicative method, and also the researcher wants to know the translation readability in the Students Dormitory of East Kalimantan “Ruhui Rahayu” Yogyakarta. This study used a qualitative research and a case study method. The researcher used the result of translation by Students in dormitory “Ruhui Rahayu” as the primary data. In this research, the researcher used five respondents in Students Dormitory Ruhui Rahayu to translate the abstract that the researcher chose and divided the result of the translation into two parts such as before training and after training. The researcher also held a small workshop for five respondents about communicative translation by Newmark. After that, the researcher compared all the data by the respondents and found 62 data of communicative translation. The highest respondent that found communicative translation is respondent 1, with 16 data (25,4%) of communicative translation, followed by respondent 5, with 13 (21,1%) data of communicative translation. Respondent 4 is with 12 (19,7%) data of communicative translation, respondent 3 is with 11 data (17,8%) of communicative translation and the last respondent with the lowest number of communicative translations is respondent 2 is with 10 data (16%) of communicative translation. The researcher also found 62 data of readability divided into 3 types. 36 data is with high readability, 20 is with medium readability and 6 is with low readability, so the researcher concludes that the result of the translation in the Students dormitory of East Kalimantan Ruhui Rahayu is readable.
