Abstract

Trade unions/labor unions as a forum for workers to protect, defend, advocate and prosper them. Therefore, trade unions have an important role and function to contribute to helping workers. Departing from this interest, the researcher wants to know the FBI's contribution to the empowerment of members who are victims of layoffs (PHK) ``q`in the Yogyakarta area. This study uses a qualitative research method which will be presented using a descriptive method. The main data source comes from interview data with FBI supervisors and secretaries and several FBI members. In addition, the researcher also used observation and documentation methods so that this study is categorized as field research. The results of the study show that the FBI's contribution to the empowerment of members who are victims of layoffs in the Yogyakarta area is by providing educational training on employment, helping to find job vacancies, helping to develop independent businesses and resolving layoff problems. In resolving layoff problems, non-litigation and litigation methods are used. The non-litigation method is taken by conducting bipartite and tripartite negotiations. Then if no common ground is found then use the litigation path or through the courts. The impacts felt by members after joining the FBI include: first, the impact on awareness and understanding, namely members can be aware and understand the importance of unionizing and increase insight because they can find out many issues about workers. Second, the impact on health and welfare, namely members get help from the FBI to solve the problems they face. Third, the impact on society, namely members who were initially indifferent after joining the FBI become mutually helpful and supportive of other members who are having problems in their companies
