Abstract

Ideally, married couples live together in one house of fulfill their respective duties and responsibilities. However, due to work demands, some of them must be apart and live a long distance marriage (LDM) life. This study aims to understand how coping stress is experienced by pregnant women undergoing long distance marriage. This research employs a qualitative approach using case studies on two women. The subject in this study consist of two individuals with different criteria, the first subject lives with her parents, while the second subject lives with her in-laws. The results indicate that both subject have different coping stress experiences depending on the situations they face. Both subject combine emotional-focised-coping and problem-focused-coping to manage stress through active approaches, whether by taking actions to reduce stressors or managing emotions and thoughts. Additionally, other factor were identified that create new problems exacerbating the LDM situation. These factors include economic issues and work demands that contribute to stress for wives undergoing LDM.
