Abstract

Panji Gumilang's blasphemy case has sparked heated debates in the public sphere, including debates that have emerged in the online media. The media presents various perspectives on the case. Even so, the media is not neutral and favors certain groups or views. The media's partisanship can be seen in the formation of the media agenda. The media agenda can be read through the prominence of issues raised by the media. In reporting this blasphemy case, the media also has its own agenda. This research aims to map the discourse network formed in the reporting of the blasphemy case by Panji Gumilang in Republika Online and Tempo.co. These two media were chosen because of their different orientations. Republika has close ties with Islamic groups and thoughts. Meanwhile, Tempo.co was chosen to represent a credible national media that is able to present more varied sources. Using Discourse Network Analysis (DNA), researchers revealed differences in the discourse networks formed in the news of the two media. Republika Online emphasizes actors and discourses which say that Panji Gumilang blasphemed. So it can be said that Republika Online has a tendency to favor the majority Muslim group. Tempo.co, on the other hand, features actors and discourses that are pro and contra to the case in a balanced manner. Tempo.co does not take sides with any group and is neutral. However, Tempo.co clearly shows its alignment with the idea that freedom of speech is everyone's right.
