Abstract

Photography was originally a work of art. However, along with the development of time and technology, photography has also become a medium of communication. Currently, photography can be used as a medium for preaching to the wider community.This research focuses on human interest photos by Steve McCurry. This type of photography contains a certain story, message or meaning. Primary data was obtained from photographs by Steve McCurry. Each photo is analyzed using Charles Sanders Peirce's semiotics to understand the human message contained in it.After being analyzed using Charles Sanders Peirce's semiotic theory, Steve McCurry's human interest photos were proven to have human meaning and messages. The initial step is to analyze the signs, objects and interpretations of each human interest photo according to Peirce's semiotics. Then, the interpretation that emerges is understood and the existing human message is sought. The meaning and humanitarian messages in these photos often include a call to be patient and wise in facing disasters or trials, the importance of spreading love, the importance of education, and struggles in life.
