Abstract

This research is motivated by the number of students who experience decreased motivation in learning at school. The role of peers within the school environment is very important in increasing student learning motivation. Education has an important role in character building and personal development of students. Learning motivation is needed by a student, so that students can achieve the expected goals. Because if students do not have learning motivation, then these students cannot achieve the expected goals optimally. The purpose of this study was to determine whether there is a relationship between peer support and learning motivation of grade XI students of MAN 3 Bantul. The type of research used is a quantitative approach with correlation hypothesis testing. Respondents in this study amounted to 95 students from class XI MAN 3 Bantul, with cluster random sampling technique. The data collection technique used two scales, namely the peer support scale and the learning motivation scale. Data analysis was carried out using the Spearman's rho non-parametric correlation hypothesis test with the help of the SPSS application. Based on this test, the correlation coefficient value obtained is 0.591 with a significance level of Sig. (2 - tailed) 0.000 <0.05. This means that there is a positive and significant relationship between peer support and learning motivation of grade XI MAN 3 Bantul students with the results of a fairly strong relationship level. So it can be concluded that the higher the peer support, the higher the student learning motivation. Vice versa, the lower the peer support, the lower the learning motivation.
