Abstract

The purpose of this research is to understand correlation between knowledge of mental retardation with parents acceptance who have children with mental retardation. The hypothesis is a positive relationship between knowledge of mental retardation with parents acceptance. Subjects in this study were 51 people. This study uses a quantitative approach. Characteristic of research subjects include parents who have children who are diagnosed with mental retardation. The sampling technique used in this research is purposive sampling. The theory used to construct a scale using the theory of parental acceptance of Rohner and tests knowledge used to construct theory of Azwar prepared by the researcher. Data collection tool using test of knowledge and parents acceptance scale. Data was analyzed using Spearman Rho correlation techniques with SPSS for windows 16:00. The results showed that there was no correlation between knowledge of mental retardation, with parents acceptance who have children with mental retardation. This is indicated by the correlation coefficient (rxy) of 0.161 with a significance level (p) of 0.130 (p> 0.05). Based on these results, the hypothesis is rejected.
