Abstract

The purpose of this research was to examine the relationship between body image and anxiety in women who face menopause. The samples in this research were 54 female employees of Solok City Municipality, West Sumatera, aged 40-45 years old. The hypothesis is there is a negative relationship between body image and anxiety in women who face menopause. This research used quantitative method. There is two scales were used for data collecting, they are scale of anxiety in women who face menopause which is based on the theory of responses to anxiety by Stuart about the aspects of anxiety theory (_ = 0,974) and scale of body image which is based on the components of body image by Cash (_ =0,906) . Data was analyzed using Spearman-Rho correlation technique by SPSS 16.00 for Windows. This result had shown by coeficient of correlation (r) =-0,329 dan p = 0,007 (p < 0,05). Based on the result, it is said that hypothesis is accepted. The effective contribution of body image to anxiety in women who face menopause is shown by R square of 0,161 which means 16,1% of anxiety in women who face menopause is influenced by body image.
