Abstract

The hadis of Ahl sunnah wa al-jama'ah was popularized, although there is no in shahihain, by scholar of Abbasiyah state in 232 H ( it was al-Mutawakkil governance) to make the scholar of al-Asy’ariah as state ideology. This scholar is so hegemonic in the history of Islam in the long time. Meanwhile, critical hermeneutic: Jurgen Habermas gives the tools of interpretation which has ideological bias with the demystification process. He left from theory to the Iiberation actions which actually are as according to Islam mission. By using the critical hermeneutic: Jurgen Habermas as the tool of analysis, writer has a conclusion that Ahl sunnah wa al-jama'ah, which is explained by ma ana ' alahi al-yauma wa ashabi, in fact is not as a scholar but it means the life principles in Islam. That is first, liberation principle (prophetic) which has two domains: liberation from musyrik to tauhid and liberation from hegemony, domination and oppressed society to the social Iiberation or free society. The second principle is the principle of creativity and commitment to dynamicize Islam. Both of these principles are not rigid but flexible according to the culture and history of people.
