Abstract

Insect larvae is makroinvertebrae, that could detect aquatic health, especially the order of Ephemeroptera, Plecoptera. Trichoptera. The purpose of this research its to determine the abundance and number of species of aquatic insect larvae and relation to water quality in the upper reaches the Gajah Wong River. The research were condected from September to October 2012. The sample was taken removal from three locatione Hargobinangun, Harjobinangun and Sardonoharjo. The sampel was taken using kicking and jabbing technique. The chemical and physical parameter measured included pH, temperature, DO, BOD, and organic substrat. The understand the relationship between enviromental factors and EPT’s abundance, the Cononical Correspondence Analysis ( CCA ) was used. Meanwhile, to study health status of the river, the number of EPT secies was calculated. The result confirmed that Baetidae was the most dominant species conpared to the other families. Based on the number of EPT species, it can be concluded that Hargobinangun was slightly pollution, but Harjobinangun and Sardonoharjo were clean. Based on the Cononical Correspondence Analysis ( CCA ) , it can be found that there were three groups of EPT: group I ( Baetidae, Hydropsychidae, Ephemerilidae and Perlidae ) , group II ( Philoptamidae and Odontotoceridae ) , group III ( Caneidae, Ephemeridae and Polycentropodidae ) . Key words : insect-larvae, EPT, water quality, abundance, species amount, upper reaches Gajah Wong river.
