Abstract
Along with the development of human life in the present modern era, apart of human beings have felt a crisis of personal identity. It has been, more or less, caused by human attitude and behaviour tending to exalt or overdo worldly things. It is in this condition that modern western community needs spirituality. Modern Westerners' experiences have coloured Moslem communities tending to ignore that Islam has declared itself as a religion that is synergetic to basic human disposition. To this condition, there can be a question to rise: How does Islam really show the existence of human life and the internal dynamism of human life? It is here that this paper, using methods and approach of thematic Qur 'anic exegesis, tries to ans\ver the above question. The result shows that Islam really appreciates the world (dunia) as a temporary reality, and the hereafter (akhirat) is the eternal one. Consequently, human beings are strongly supposed to sustain the equilibrium and balance of worldly and heavenly needs through individual as well as social hard works, efforts and creativities for their worldly life, and by performing piety (amal SQl&\\)for their heavenly life.
