Abstract

"Empat Mata (Four Eyes) " show is one of the television show that has many seers. This is a leisure talk show that contains many jokes and jest with slank language. This research tries to explore the inner morality messages displayed by television and responded by people. There were pro and contra against the display. We hope this research will make illustrations towards the growth of moral perception from the two sides, the society or the media. This research also analyse the content as well as its performance. Sample was taken randomly within six episodes which divided into two groups in five months (June 2007 to November 2007). We used SPSS 15 for windows as analysis tools. The research results indicate that moral values in this talk show were dominated by negative values. The positive dimensions of moral values were found in verbal and denotative sayings. While negative aspects of moral values were in balance between verbal and gesture denotative languages spoken in television. Generally speaking, negative moral values in verbal-denotative, verbal-connotative and gesture-denotative language were equilibrium. The negative moral values appear mostly caused by the host itself. However, the capacities of the guest stars have a huge impact on the emergence of the negative moral values, while the episodes attended by the guest stars tends to make negative moral values than the artists and the professionals which became topic of discussions.
