abstract: This research was done on internet service in Mathematics and Natural Science
Faculty Library, Gadjah Mada University. Its objective is to study and indentify usage of
internet by library user in the library.
It is quantitative descriptive method research with subject of library user and
object is usage of internet service in library. Sample was taken with incidental sampling
with total sample of 98 respondents consisting of library user in the library. Data was
collected by distributing questionnaire to respondent.
Result of the research indicated that (1) most library user understand internet as
information source, (2) almost half of library user used internet to search information and
scientific article, (3) most library user understand function of internet as means to search
information, (4) almost half of library user used internet once to 7 times in a month, (5)
most library user used internet 1 to 2 hours, (6) half of library user used internet facility
for browsing (world Wide Web), (7) most library user in searching information very
often used search engine, (8) Google is one of search engines selected by almost all
library user, (9) almost half of ly used searching point based on keywords, (10) most
library user sometime used search operator point such as Boolean Operator (OR, AND,
NOT, NEAR), (11) most library user stated that internet connection access speed in
FMIPA UGM library is fast, (12) most library user stated internet facility in FMIPA
UGM Library is sufficient, (13) information searched from internet by library user is
free article and news, (14) most library user only sometime in accessing and using ejournal,
and (15) action over information obtained from most library user is download the
information.
Percentace once the condusion of this research most of (55,31%) has been used
by the user in the Library of the Faculty of Mathemathics and Sciences of Gadjah Mada
University
