N2  - This study aimed to examine quality of life among mothers of children with autistic
spectrum disorder. Expectation through explanation of this study is be able to explain
quality of life?s context, factors and meaning of quality of life among mothers of
children with autistic spectrum disorder. Using qualitative-phenomenological
approach, this study examined three mothers of children with autistic disorder.
Methods of collecting data is observation and interviews.
Result of this study pointing out that informant firstly felt repressed about autistic
spectrum disorder in their children. This disorder automatically create so many
change in mothers life then, such as emotional well-being, interpersonal relationship,
physical well-being, material well-being, self-determination, and social inclusion.
These things so was colouring informant?s life that they becoming qualified person.
First informant (LM) and second (EN), have some factors influencing their quality of
life: (1) family support, (2) social support, (3) spirituality, and (4) optimism. Third
informant (ET) have little poor factors, they are: (1) family support, and (2)
optimism. Quality of life? meaning on first informant is existence of enjoy in her life.
Second informant interprete quality of life as the best achievement purpose in every
stage of her life. While, third informant interprete quality of life as a achievement of
her child?s independence.
