abstract: This study is purposed to understand : 1) describe the students' responses on the role of library in fostering student reading interest in SMA Negeri 1 Wates. 2) Describe the students’ reading interest in SMA Negeri 1 Wates. The used analysis is a quantitative descriptive analysis, the approach is quantitative with students of SMA N 1 Wates as respondent. Variable in this study is student’s responses on the role of library in fostering student reading interest in SMA Negeri 1 Wates. The samples were taken as many as 88 respondents. The sampling was carried out by lottery. The data was collected using a questionnaire as the primary method, documentation and interviews to the head of the library as a complementary method. Based on the quantitative descriptive analysis the obtained results can be concluded as follows. First, student’s responses on the role of library in fostering student reading interest in SMA Negeri 1 Wates was quite good with grand mean value 3,34. Second, student reading interest in SMA Negeri 1 Wates was quite good with grand mean value 3,32. Based on the study, SMA N 1 Wates library should see to strategic location of the building, continue to develop its collection, improve facilities and library service.
