abstract: This research purpose to understand the effect of story for The Students reading
interest in Tumbuh 1 Elementary Schoo1 of Yogyakarta. This research is a
quantitative research. The variable in this study is story variables (as independent
variables) and Reading Interest (as dependent variables). The methods of data
collection in this research using questionnaires, interviews, observation, and
documentation. And the data analysis using a simple linear regression were
processed using SPSS version 19 for windows. The results showed that story has a
positive and significant effect of reading interest in Tumbuh 1 Elementary Schoo1
of Yogyakarta’s Students. These results indicated the correlation value obtained
for 0.785 with significance level of 0.000 > 0.05 (5%). Story that done by The
Students of 2nd grader Tumbuh 1 Elementary School of Yogyakarta is in excellent
as evidenced by the grand mean of 3.61, and the condition of reading interest of
The 2nd grader Students classified in the very high category, which is shown by
the results of the calculation of the grand mean of 3.60. On the test results of
simple linear regression coefficient of the influence of story for the 2nd grader
students reading interest in Tumbuh 1 elementary school of Yogyakarta, with
linear regression coefficients can be predicted that Y = 7.447 + 0.789 X with Y
(reading interest) and X (story). Constant of 7.447 means that if there is no
increase in the story, so the reading interest is 7.447, while the regression
coefficient of 7.447 means that each increase of appropriate story (+ sign), it will
increase reading interest about 0.789. On the coefficient of determination (R
Square) obtained is 0.617 means that the story variable can explain the story less
reading interest about 60.17%. This may imply that the 38.3% reading interest is
influenced by the other factors except story and it was not written.
