abstract: This research aims to discover the user information searching behaviour
in Perpustakaan Kota Yogyakarta. This research can be used as consideration to
improve information retrieval service at the library. The methode which will be
used in this research is quantitative descriptive. The population in this research is
19.679 member in Perpustakaan Kota Yogyakarta with 100 user as the sample.
The data collection methode wich will be used are quitionnaire, observation,
interview and documentation. The data analysis use Mean and Grand Mean.
Based on the data wich already processed, it has been known that the user
information searching behaviour in Perpustakaan Kota Yogyakarta is classified in
the good category. Proved with grand mean of 2,90. The starting stage is well
considered with grand mean 2,83. The chaining satge is well considered with
grand mean 2,89. The browsing stage is well considered with grand mean 2,52.
The differentiating stage is well considered with grand mean 3,15. The monitoring
stage is well considered 2,95. The extracting stage is well with grand mean 3,18.
The verivyng stage is well considered with grand mean 2,99. The ending stage is
well considered with grand mean 2,71. Based on this research, the library should
conduct user education activity so user can get to know and be able to use library
facilities and librarians more active role in serving to user.
