Many definitions and different implementations of empowerment influenced by various paradigms make the discussion even more developed. This paper, which consists of three parts, focuses generally on theoretical analysis of how differents paradigms define and practice empowerment. The first part is preface, describing social problems and several elements that practice empowerment i.e. government, corporations and civil society. The second part disscusses the historical context where the term empowerment revealed as a respond to ‘maldevelopment’. It gives explanation on how development successfully increased economic growth but not eradicating poverty or providing jobs at the speed anticipated, and in many cases, inequalities were increasing. In the last part, the analysis of different perspectives on empowerment influenced by different theories is discussed.
