The construction is problematic since it causes discrimination against women. Gender as a social construction has influenced and been influenced by religion. Both are interwined. Religion to some degree legitimizes the construction and elevates its value to become final truth and seemingly God’s determination. In this regards, feminists come up with critics against the interpretation of religion as being patriarchy, andocentric and sexist. The hegemony of androcentrism, sexism and patriarchy marginalizes women’s narratives and contributions in the discourse and history of religions. In the context of religious thoughts, androcentrism, sexism and patriarchy related with methodological aspects in the process of understanding religious text, the Qur‘an. The Qur’an is polysemic, it can empirically be read from traditional, reactive, holistic, patriarchy, or liberal perspectives. The hermeneutical holistic model is the one that would be able to produce non patriarchal reading of the Qur’an and embrace gender justice.
