%X This research discussed about the news of printed mass media toward
Budi Gunawan as a candidate the head of the National Police. Background of the
problem was existence of researcher’s suspicion toward the tendency of daily
newspaper Kompas to be performed in publishing news. The tendency is shown at
some of the news item. In this case, the news about Budi Gunawan relate
existence relations Megawati Soekarnoputri with him. Megawati as the leader of
PDI-P and she is the people to carry on Joko Widodo to be President of Indonesia.
The research is aimed to find critical discourse about Budi Gunawan as
candidate the head of National Police in daily newspaper Kompas. Researcher
started to analyze toward the news of Budi shich published in daily newspaper
Kompas at 7-16 Januari 2015 based on some theory of mass media and critical
discourse. The research used method kualitatif research and analyze with model
critical discourse analysis Teun A. Van Dijk based on some element of discourse
structure: Makro Structure, Super Stucture and Mikro Structure. Critical discourse
analysis Teun A. Van Dijk is analyze to find text, social cognition and social
konteks.
After studying element of discourse structure, the researcher found indeed
daily newspaper Kompas is neutral in the publishing news toward Budi Gunawan
as candidate the head of National Police. The fact is shown at publish of daily
newspaper Kompas was support and refused Budi Gunawan. The daily newspaper
Kompas not to form a corner someone, but daily newspaper Kompas to make
arrive critical with performed statement figure. In this case, daily newspaper
Kompas not support one of the group.
