Barneby & J.W. Grimes) is a fast growing species, and widely cultivated in Indonesia. However, this species are susceptible to gall rust disease caused by Uromycladium tepperianum. Therefore, this study were aimed to compare the anatomy of xylem tissue in tolerant and susceptible sengon. Sample were consisted of 6 tolerant trees originated in Hubikosi and Kuluru Papua; and 5 suceptible trees originated in Angkaisera and Kimi Papua. All sample were harvested from sengon seedling orchards at Lumajang, East Java. Several parameters were examined such as trachea cells, parenchymal apotrakea cells, paratrakea parenchyma cells, and xylem fibers. Mean while, the dimensions of the cell were observed through the length and diameter of xilem fibers. Observations on anatomy of the xylem tissue did not show the differences between susceptible and tolerant plants including the size, density, cell gap, distribution and type. But then, analysis variance showed differences on xylem fibers, xylem fiber diameter and fiber length while the other parameters were not significant. However, the analyses of Duncan showed that the parameter did not consistently gruped the plants based on their susceptibility. Therefore, character of susceptible and tolerance plants can not be determined from the parameters of proportions and dimensions of the cell in the xylem tissue.
