N2  - This research aims to find out about the necessary competence for
librarian, in order to provide better services for library visitors in UIN Sunan
Kalijaga library. The approach method for this research is qualitative approach
and also using phenomenology method. Data collection methods used in this
research include passive-participative observation, semi-structured interview and
documentation. Data analysis method which used in this research is Miles and
Huberman Method, namely data reduction, data presentation and data verification.
In this research, data validation testing process is using observation extension,
persistence development, triangulation and member check method. Of the analysis
that has been done, the necessary competence for librarian, in order to provide
better services for library users in UIN Sunan Kalijaga library can be known, such
as, (1) Information Management Skill, including information management and
alternative information searching. (2) Attitude, including good attitude and
manners, good at serve, serve with face cheerful and always smilling. (3) People
Skill, including communication and interpersonal skill. (4) Problem Solving Skill,
including fast thinking and solving problems quickly and with a good result. (5)
Tool Literacy, including capable of using any kind of information tecnology and
how to publish literacy in the right way.
