This study uses a semiotic analysis by Roland Barthes on denotative and connotative. This study begins with data collection, categorized according to theory then the inferred category with the results of the analysis. The result of this research is there activity, a role that involved and motivated coaching reading interest in the Film Upin & Ipin. Reading activities contained in the film is a story telling activity and the reading program in school. While who play a role in fostering interest in reading are teachers, family, librarian and community. Motivation contained in the film are internal and external motivation. Internal motivation is curiosity to the reading, reading with imagination and motivation to read. While external motivation is fear of punishment and giving warning in reading.
