abstract: The purpose of this research is to analyze the effect of earnings, free cash
flow and institutional ownership which used as the determining factor to explain
the behavior of smoothing dividends policy. The Samples in this research is 13
companies listed in Jakarta Islamic Index (JII) during the period 2010-2013. The
analysis technique is the panel data regression analysis using E-views 8 program.
The research finds that free cash flow is an important factor affecting the
dividends smoothing policy. Free cash flow is the only one of three variables
included in the model research, generated speed of adjustment (SOA) below 0.5
indicating smoothing dividend behavior. This research consistent with the free
cash hypothesis, that the firm pay dividend from free cash flow to reduce agency
conflict.
