"Hollywood films as one of America’s prominent industries\r\nthat influence world’s popular culture can be seen as a\r\ncultural discourse. Movie as a popular literature conveys its\r\nmessage in its own unique ways. Myth is one of its\r\nmessages. This study tries to reconstruct the myth of\r\npopular American superhero through an interesting new\r\nmovie: The Simpsons. How the new type of hero is\r\nmanifested is analyzed in this study to find out the\r\ncontinuities or changes in American’s collective dreams so\r\nthat the new American perspective over heroic mythologies\r\ncan be understood. Basically this study analyzes as well the\r\npossibilities of the meanings conveyed by the media.\r\nTextual analysis is conducted to understand not only the\r\nmeanings of the myth of the superhero perceived by the\r\naudience but also the American characters inside the myth.\r\nThe Simpsons seems to offer a new type of hero’s myth,\r\nwhich is very distinct from the previous type of popular\r\nsuperheroes as in Batman, Superman, or Spiderman.\r\nKata kunci: mitos; superhero; bioskop Amerika; budaya\r\npopuler."^^ .
