%X This article explores Muhammad Syahrur's conception of polygamy. For  Syahrur, polygamy should not be put as an objective or extreme limit (gayah).  On the contrary, this should be considered as a medium or instrument  (wasilah) to solve social problems. Therefore, to do polygamy is to res:Jlve  a social problem, not to have a "sexual vacation". This is based on the basic  massage of the Qur'an on just or equality to resolve the problem. This can  be seen from the Prophet's story (sunnah) as he did a polygamy to help  and protect the orphans and widows.
